Thorbros Control arms?

I'm in need of some new control arms since I originally bought from Airbagit (big mistake). I'm wondering if anyone has some reviews on Thorbros arms. They are the arms I've been leaning towards but want to make sure on fitment. Also do they work with the factory steering shaft? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

I have not used their c10 arms but i have seen their s10 ones and they looked pretty good. But a while back they had some problems and had a huge wait for off the shelf stuff to be shipped out.Have you looked at http://pbfab.com/ or http://michiganmetalworks.com/ or even ridetech has some nice stuff.

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

I have looked into Porter built. Those were the arms I was going to go with but they are a few hundred dollars more than thorbros and I ran out of money a long time ago for this build so I'm trying to keep money in mind. With that said I'm doing research this time around to make sure I don't buy junk again (it is wasn't for the junk airbagit arms I would have been driving my truck this summer). I have also looked into Michigan metal works and not a fan of the flat arms, I feel they wouldn't be as strong and a few people have told me to steer clear of them. As for ride tech I have a friend with those arms but I think the price is more comparable with Porter built so would probably go with those before ride tech.

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

I have never seen a problem out of Michigan metal works,A while back someone was on ebay selling clones of his stuff that didn't fit right using his name,But you can't count that it wasn't him.Besides that i have seen nothing but good things from them and never seen a arm bend being flat plate.Being your in Canada have you looked at the shipping prices of both porterbuilt and thor bros ?

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

I haven't looked at shipping yet but I usually ship everything to Ogdensburg NY and drive the hour or so to pick them up. I will be calling thorbros on Monday to ask a few questions regarding fitment with stock steering shaft, shock mounts and shipping. So that might give me a better idea. I will also keep your advice on MMW in mind although I much prefer a tubular arm. At the moment I feel PB would be my second choice.

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

your gonna have to do new steering shaft with u-joints etc with any arms you use unless you are going with the mmw dodger upper arms...which I never really seen pics of them clearing the steering shaft which they are made to do....I have a set of mw arms for my c10 which I picked up for 250 bucks....if you want something quick of the shelf to get your truck done then you want ride tech...any other arms have a pretty good lead time...

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

I'm not to concerned about the down time since my truck won't be on the road during the winter anyways. Main concern is just getting a good quality arm without paying a fortune. I was hoping to not have to change the steering shaft but from what research I've done so far seems like I will need to unfortunately.

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

I've emailed PB with a few questions. Won't be going with Thorbros as there is a 12 month wait. Hopefully PB doesn't take to long to get back to me.

BBC10, Do you have a picture of the driver side? And also did you need the relocation brackets for the shocks or would they work with the factory upper mounts? Did you have to modify your steering shaft?

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

I'm debating between PB and Ride Tech now. A friend of mine has Ride Tech and he was able to use his factory shock mount and steering shaft. If PB arms are the same that will go with PB but if they are not that will probably be the deciding factor. Both sets are the same price, but not having to spend money on relocation brackets and ujoints and a shaft for the steering would help a lot. And for those who say to just save up a bit extra and do that, I wish I was that easy but at this point needing to spend few hundred more might end up in me having to sell the truck all together which I REALLY don't want to do since It's been 6 years of hard work and learning. But I mean it when I say I am running out of money on this build unfortunately.

Re: Thorbros Control arms?

So I've decided on porter built. I spoke with one of the techs there and he stated the arms will work with factory steering and shock mounts since I am running the factory crossmember and haven't Z's the frame. Will be ordering them this week.
