67 250 CID Cyl Head

Hi all. I recently purchased a 67 C10 step side. Am looking to keep the inline 6 and build it rather than drop in an 8. I am looking for a cylinder head from a 194 CID with stamp # 3864883. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Jamie

Welcome to the site..

That is going to be a hard one to find. It was used on Chevy II's from 62-67 and some Chevelles of same vintage. Probably your best bet is to hit salvage yards that still have old vehicles to see if you can locate one. Another possibility is to search online on the Chevy Nova sites.

I just want a vehicle that I can work on, that won't talk to me, leave error msgs or keep track of how I drive...

You're looking to raise compression? Some tuners say fitting the small chamber 194 head raises compression but shrouds the valves limiting breathing...

Re: 67 250 CID Cyl Head

Thanks for the welcome and all your input. I am weighing the options. Would rather keep and build the 250 rather than drop in an 8 cyl. Will most likely keep the stock head, headers, intake, 2 bbl carb, and step up the cam.

Re: 67 250 CID Cyl Head

I applaud you for keeping the inline 6 and not joining the sea of small block chevys..I get many complements on my 6 banger but I have found that the inline 6 build is an expensive venture.. But I have been very lucky with ebay and lucky finds in amazon for my build so far.
I have been looking for a 194 head for some time but a lot of them were junked back in the day.. I am now moving on to the prospect that to increase my compression adding v-8 307 flat top pistons to my 250 may have to be my route.. If you happen to find an extra 194 head please keep me in mind Best of luck to you

Oh!! make sure you check out 12bolt.com.. Tom lowe is a great resource and is an expert on our inline 6's.. one of the first things I will do when it is time for the motor to head to the shop will be to install one of Tom's lump ports.. check it out if you have not already

here you go. I got 1 of his 194 heads(he still had 2 back in june). I got it for $50, I just had to remove it. email him before the add goes away. head was in great shape. I just cleaned it up and used it(I lapped the valve seats just to be safe)

Re: 67 250 CID Cyl Head

x2 on applauding not going the V8 route. My greasy old 250 gets more attention than ever. Their popularity has really increased in the last 8-10 years. See more I-6 than ever at cars shows. Used to be you could buy complete master rebuild kits (pistons, rings, gaskets, everything) for under $200 because many parts houses were trying to liquidate old stock. Now most go for over well over $300. The 194 heads are fetching good prices too.

I picked up 2 heads last night. Dropped one today at the local machine shop and have one spare. It is a bare head, no valves.
