Repairing Deluxe Heater Levers Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am repairing deluxe heater levers, two of them appear to be broken where knob fits. Can the heater and defrost levers be interchanged, e.g. if I find a good replacement heater lever can I use it in the defrost position?

Can the knobs be removed from levers without breaking or if you need knobs do you need to replace lever and knob as one piece?

I have these levers and knobs left over from my project if you're interested. I believe the two outside ones interchange and the middle one is different.

I changed mine last year with a repair kit I got from LMC. I think it was made by Old Air or something like that. The new levers were stamped steel instead of pot metal and came with the knobs, bushings and retainers to reattach the cables. It was easy to install and works fine. Like the above poster said I believe that two of them are the same and the other one is different.

Just did mine as well with LMC kit and the whole job took less than two hours... Also picked up a new fan motor from LMC for $30. 15 min. to swap and it's nice and quiet now. As Steve66 mentioned the LMC levers are stamped and appear to be more durable. With all the broken original levers out there seems it's just a mater of time..

I have used the ones from Classic Parts also, and worked just as well. No more than these are unless you are on a super tight budget I'd just order new.

TMCK your photos raises another questions, were all the year knobs labeled with fan, def, etc?

Yes, interested in your extra parts, mine is 64 to 66 controls.

64-66 were not labeled, those were 60-63.

The knobs in the picture are from a 65 GMC.
