Re: Weights/Jackstands

Depends on what you got, short, long, step? But roughly around 3500 lbs. I have a set and would be fine with 3 ton rachet style jack stands such as these. Don't waste your money on the cheap stuff.

Don't waste money on the cheap stuff, and you post a pic of Harbor Freight jack stands.

That being said, I've got the HFT 6ton steel jack stands, and they work great. My only issue is that if I need to support my lifted K2500 by the frame, I have to put blocks under the stand so it will reach.

My exact thoughts!
3 Ton should be more than enough.

I have a Snap-on/Mac set. I bought them from Mac, and there were Snap-on stickers under them.

Re: Weights/Jackstands

^^^ lol.. haha im shure he was joking..
anyways 3tons 6000lbs should be plenty.. just buy yourself some with a max range lift to 21" - 24" inchs +.. the ones that have a max lift of 17"inch are for cars not for big boy trucks..

Gee whiz DF.. I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers with a pic of a rachet style jack stand i jerked off google.I didn't know who made them I just used a pic that showed a rachet style the best...please let me clarify this is what I meant by cheap. And by the way I don't know who made these either.

Re: Weights/Jackstands

Never cheap out on stands and buy for double the expected weight of vehicle is my advice

Re: Weights/Jackstands

Keep in mind that whatever the weight rating is for jackstands, that's for the weight supported by a pair of jackstands.... not the rated capacity of a single jackstand.

When in doubt, always get stouter ones than you think you'll need.

Re: Weights/Jackstands

Plus, I use good jack stands plus what ever I jack the truck up to put the stands in place, I let it down a little to put weight on the stands and leave it there. That way if it slips on the stands for any reason I have a back up to stop it from falling. it only takes once..

Re: Weights/Jackstands

I have a set of 3 ton and a set of 6 ton. The 6 ton stands I use most often for the truck as they are taller and give me more room. The 3 ton come out for the car or when I need another set of stands say if I are dropping the drive shaft. Next set of 6 ton I run across at the swap meet for a good price I will probably grab just to have 2 sets, or if I find them I will go one step bigger for a little more lift.

3 ton should be plenty for a C10/20 but kinda short.

Re: Weights/Jackstands

Even though the first set is from H/F I think they would be decent enough to hold your truck if tall enough. The second set pictured would be a great pair to put like under a rear diff if you were wanting to work on one on a table or out of the truck but that is about all I would use that type for. This is one of those tools that if you buy and they break or fail in any way you won't get another chance to replace them. so spend the $20 or so extra bucks and buy more than you need. Jim

Re: Weights/Jackstands

I prefer square tube pin type jack stands but they start at around $150 a pair

What he said. I always leave the jack in place just for extra insurance.

Re: Weights/Jackstands

The jack stands I bought at Advanced Auto have had my truck sitting on them for 3 years now without fail. 3 tonners I believe.

It's always best to get something more than what you need. That way, you are ready for expected things.
