my 65 coming alive

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1445787895

I figured I would get a picture out there since its taken 3 years to get to this point
Im in the process of reconstructing a truck I've never seen together or driven for that matter except around the yard as of 4 weeks ago after I mounted the cab on the finished frame. I will construct a build sheet as soon as I get time. I will say that this forum and the guys here are the greatest most informed group especially in the 60-66 catagory that is very specific to my build
I salute you all for this great wealth of knowledge
I will do my best to input responses from what I have learned

Double layered insulation for sound deadening- road noise.
U-seal is used under a product called reflectix. Its 1/3 the cost of the insulating sound mats and great results and user friendly
Sorry for the sideway pics but i can't seem to adjust them after loading.

Looks nice! Where did you buy the reflectix from?

Re: my 65 coming alive

Reflectix can get at home depot or lowes. Lowes has a bigger variety on size. I got a 25' roll i think it was 2' wide. I used an adheisive spray to adhere it to the Useal. Useal is great underneath due to its rubber backing that sticks right to the metal and the top is foil ...it is non butyl so theres no rubber odor

Nice! I kept my 292 and built it for street performance and backed it by a tko600. Always nice to see something different lurking under the hood. lol

It cost about $6000 to do mine. Your 250 is actually considered the better engine of the 2. You can use 307 flat top pistons in yours for a compression boost and since they are V8 pistons the cost is literally half as much compared to a super set of ross pistons. I can't really give you a Good estimate unless you tell me exactly what your wanting out of the engine. Street performance that will make a small block cring, or a just above stock build for a little more go. You have a TON of options. Prices to do machine work will vary per state. But parts I can give you a definite price on. You can start with the outside mods...then work on the inside later if your not satisfied. That's how I did it. Took a bone stock 292 and installed a 4 barrel, headers, and HEI...was really happy with the gains....then decided to go deeper:

Head work:
BBC 1.75 ratio full roller rockers
Z/28 valve springs
1.94 intake valves
1.60 exhaust valves
Had the bowls opened up as well.
.030 shaved off the head.

Block work:
Zero decked.
.040 Ross forged aluminum pistons with an 18 CC dish vs 30 CC stock.
Stock rods fitted with ARP studs and bolts.
Crank shaft balanced and ground
Comp cam 268H 219 @ .050 .499 lift on a 110 lobe center.
Clevite bearings
Melling oil pump.
Smith brother's pushrods.

And then the accessories. lol Expected HP is 310 and torque should be around 340 at the flywheel.

You could do the exact same head work, flat top pistons, and with .520 lift on the cam make 310 hp and 280 torque and have a 6000 RPM 6 banger. lol!

Check out these videos. This is a 250 that Hauls!

Re: my 65 coming alive

Is this a GMC or Chevrolet? I didn't think GMC's came with a 250-6. Also, you have any more to share about getting it "in a box"? Would love to hear the back story. Love the color scheme also, can't wait to see it finished.

It has a GMC grill and hood. lol So if it is a GMC with the stock engine it will have a 230. But a 250 crank and rods will drop in and make it a 250. lol Same bore just different strokes.

Re: my 65 coming alive

I saw that, but I thought it looked like it had a Chevy dash, although hard to tell. And I thought GMC's all had a V-6 until 66.
