Firewall oddity , dbl thick on right side

I noticed this on my 72 C20 today. The right side of the firewall is double thickness. It appears that the second skin was put on to correct the openings for the air conditioning. The truck was originally Ochre,, the inside still shows the original paint on the firewall. The spid shows air conditioning ,, the vin plate still has the correct rosette rivets.

Look at the pictures and tell me what you think took place.

Looks like they fixed someone else's hack job. It is kinda strange though since the original color is on the patch...hmmm

And the second skin is spot welded on ! I also found a spot by the E-brake cable that has a patch brazed on . And a spot just to the right of where the accelerator cable passes through the firewall that is brazed as well.

Must of fell of the assembly line and then was repaired by the factory. Really I have no idea. Good luck
