Trying to get back into a K30.

I have kicking myself in the rear since I sold my 86 K35 but I had to do what was best. I have been looking here and there for another one but haven't been hunting real hard. I have come across this ol beater that I am interested in. It is certainly rougher than what I wanted to start with. However, it was a one owner up until recently and pretty much in stock formation minus all the rust. I like the SRW trucks but I really like the dually trucks. I still have to secure the truck but already having mixed thoughts on keeping it SRW or going back to a dually. I have a vision of what my perfect dually would look like and having thoughts and making that a reality. Just a couple pics of the ol rust bucket. The price is a bit steep at $1600 but it should be okay.

Factory 350, 4-speed, 205 non AC truck. No PW or PL. Just your basic Custom Deluxe which would have to be upgraded.

What year is it? Looks like some work needs to be done but I like the one owner and original factor!

It is an 84. As long as the spring hangers, frame and cab mounts are good it would be a start.

I would rather pay more money for one that needed less bodywork. Same money, less aggravation.

Under normal circumstances I would too. That green stuff called money is on the tight side going into winter though. I can live with it. If I can close the deal it may either stay SRW or it might go dually.

Re: Trying to get back into a K30.

WOW, did they drag that thing out of a lake?

I understand the money tight thing for sure, but to finish that truck properly will cost more than a nice rust free one does, and you'll have twice in it what it's worth when finished.

But ya gotta do what suits you. If it keeps you busy and you enjoy doing it then it really doesn't matter.

It wouldn't be a full restore anyway. More than likely new panels where needed, paint and freshen up the interior along with what ever mechanical it needs. Not something that is going to get done overnight as my 85 short bed is getting finished first since I had to tear it down to the ground for a rebuild.

So did I (SW Ohio) and I always traveled west to buy rust free cars and trucks. Now living out here in the South West to get away from that stuff.

Re: Trying to get back into a K30.

An agreement was made yesterday on this truck. Going to try to pick it up on Thursday. I also put in an offer on a pretty clean 84 C20 the same color that has a nice clean body and interior on it. I am hoping that goes through as well. I can swap interior and all metal except the cab to buy me some time before repainting a different color. The only thing I found was that after I put in my offer the donor truck is only a one tank bed and not dual tanks.

WOW! I still can't believe you sold that '86. But live and learn I guess. Heck I still haven't found the exact truck I want and I've been looking for a while. Good luck, at least when you are finished it should be exactly what you want.

Yeah I really like the 86 but needed funding for the business. The guy I sold it to ended up selling it on ebay so not sure where it is at now. As far as having what I want, well I may need another K30 dually for that.

Re: Trying to get back into a K30.

As far as this 84 goes I am thinking about keeping the stock look in different colors. Maybe a midnight blue and silver two tone or black and silver two tone like the pics. I have also thought about just a straight midnight blue. However it my end up it will have the factory white steel rims and caps more than likely on a stock suspension. 2.5" lift at most it at all. I like the pic of the black truck but I am kinda leaning towards the blue/silver. It would match my short bed if I can get it done. I need to quite wheelin and dealin.

Re: Trying to get back into a K30.

Well I never was able to get the truck. I was given the last minute line about an issue with the title. I backed out and told them not until there is a title. Just got word today that there is now a title and was sent a photo of it for proof. We'll see how this pans out from here. For what I have to spend at the moment it is the best one I have come across for the money.

Good luck with it. What engine? What axles do those have, D60/14FF? I'm surprised at single tank, I bet 20gal, won't get you too far with a decent size trailer.

Re: Trying to get back into a K30.

I can't imagine having one tank in my k10, especially at 16 gallons lol. Would only be about 150-180 miles of range. My trip up north every year I would have to bring a gas can and be forced to use it. I'm looking forward to this truck, looks like it just needs a bed really.

It has dual tanks on it. Supposed to have a 350 in it. The last 86 K35 dually I had got about 150ish miles to the tank with the 454,400 combo with 3.73's. I am not looking at making any long distance traveling with this if I end up with it. Thoughts at this time are an 8.1 with a NV4500 but that is just a thought at this time.

Only a 350 in this one. Yes on the D60 and 14 bolt. You made me recheck the pics because I knew it had dual tanks. I have rarely ever used both tanks on any of these trucks over the years except for a trip which I rarely take. These old tons and fuel mileage usually don't compute too well together. It's just a hobby. Gives me something to do. Still kicking myself for selling the 86 dually. Might just have to track it back down again.
