Look what I found in the woods.
So a friend of mine recently bought land and found some car's and trucks on the property. One of them is Chevy C10 long box Custom which I think is a 64 . It's completely rotted out. Not much left of her even the frame is badly rotted. The cool part about it is that it's a V8 4spd! I was hoping it was a 327 but I'm pretty sure it's a 283. I could have the engine and trans for $100 but I'm not sure they are worth it. It does have a weird bracket on the hood with a wire sticking out of it. It also has some sort of controls mounted on the dash next to the Gauges. Was this possibly for a spot light? Never seen anything like it. Pictures posted below.

Nice find! Too bad its past fixable. Heck for 100 I'd take the engine and tranny good or not.

Fender badge is a 64 but the horn ring and emergency flasher screams 1966! Get all three if you can. Great find! Oh yeah, and how about the stainless deluxe windshield trim gotta have that!

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
Steering wheel looks like Chevy II or Nova
Alum grill maybe? Custom knobs Metal upper radiator hose. Side and sail trim(s) Probably at least $400 in swap meet parts there. |

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
Very interesting chrome ornaments on the hood... they look like they were made for it.
I'd like to see a closer shot of that control on the dash. And as someone else said the trim, the emergency flasher, solid radiator hose, it looks like the factory fan shroud is in there laying on the inner fender... 4bbl carb is interesting too. Were they available with a 4bbl 283? You said it's a V8-4spd... is it the Granny 4? It's not a regular 4-speed, is it? See if the spare tire mount is there, and the jack under the seat, too. A few more bucks in your pocket. -Brad

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
Yes it does have the aluminum grill. The hood trim also looks original although I don't think I've ever seen that before. I think I'm just going to have the truck hauled to my house so I can go through it.

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
I know this is a Chevy Truck forum, but what other cars are hiding in the woods? I think I recognized, but cannot swear to it, a '63 or '64 Bel Air or something like that.

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
I think the 283s did come with a 4 barrel. They were power pack motors with one hump on the front of the head and a 4 barrel. My 67 impala ss has one in it. Make sure and get the engine they are hard to find anymore

There are 7 other cars along with the C10 and a pretty cool 1950 GMC dump truck. The cars are all Chevy Vega's and a few Corvair's |

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
Just for giggles, check the steering columns in the Corvairs. If you find a Corvair with a factory tilt/telescope column, yank it and sell it to Corvette guys for a fortune.
If you pull that hazzard flasher, take the time to disconnect the wiring harness from the pigtail at the bottom of the steering column. I've pulled three out of vehicles, and two of them had the wires cut and spliced in. One had a factory pig tail that plugged right into the wiring harness. (that one's going in my Suburban!) -Brad

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
That's a WCFB (white cast four barrel) Carter on the engine, common to the 283s. All the 327s I ever saw had the Rochester 4 jet carb on them. The underhood pik shows steering column with shift lever ears on it. And one of those cars in the background has the "sport roof" profile to it! I luv "woods find" photos like this, thanks!

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
After many years of looking at cars in junk yards most of the time the engine is so rusty inside its not worth fooling with. Like 8 pistons rusted solid in the block, however this one for some reason looks like it has been kept pretty dry. It may be a good one.

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
Wow that's a shame. I hadn't thought of it in 30 years but my uncle had some old cars behind his house rusting away. He's long gone now, I wonder if they are still back in the woods and what's there.

Re: Look what I found in the woods.
It could be a 4sd truck that the column got changed, that would splain the non matching steering wheel. Also see a fan clutch that looks outta place. Cough up the $100 & see if you can drive it home...
