Dye paint for vinyl plastic?
Comments if you used this stuff. Whats it called, what auto parts store. Will it work on soft plastic such as seat belt retracter covers? Will it scratch off when dry? Thanx.

You can find the dye at a autobody supplier. They can mix up what you need. They can give you instructions for preping also.

The autobody supplier would have the best product for sure. If thats not an option, I have had good luck with Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric at most parts stores. It's cheap, < $5 a can, but as long as you prep it correctly it sticks very good. There is also a can of adhesion promotor that I sometimes use. I thinkO"Reilly, advanced, carry it. Walmart here even has a couple colors. If you use something like this, spray the first coat real light and you can see the dye/paint soak into the vinyl or soft plastic.

I looked at some part stores, but couldnt find the right color. I then went to an auto paint store and they had a whole wall of the stuff in rattle cans. I sprayed my door panels, headliner, and visors..no scratches yet. It was a lil over $8 a can.

There is also a product called Bulldog Plastic Adhesion Promoter available at auto paint suppliers that works very well.

I used a dye on some door bottom carpet pieces and on a eurathane dash pad in an 80'ish truck, I got the dye from the paint store (I cant remember the name) it said it was made for carpet and vinyl and I tried to rub it off the carpet and the dash when I was done and it wouldn't come off. It came in a spray can and in a paint can, I wish I could remember the name of it but I do remember it wasn't cheap.
