Re: Is this original sheet metal?
They look to be replacements to me. The factory definitely didn't use screws or rivets they were spot welded. That being said if it's not full of mud the bottom of that cab including the outer floor looks pretty good. It's getting pretty hard to find one of these trucks with out some measure of rust repair In it.

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
Not original rockers. Top looks solid, I'd crawl under and look at the cab supports. Then I'd look at the area above the windshield. If they are good I'd say it is a pretty good cab.
Good luck, Rg

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
Given your location, I'd look that truck over really well and with a soft magnet (like the ones you get from rockauto, etc).

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
Thanks, guys. The truck is about 3 hours away from me, so I wanted to get others' opinions before I took the drive to look at it. It's a supposedly running truck for $1000, so I think it's probably a good deal. I'll make sure to check for bondo. It looks like the driver's cab corner and the bottoms of the doors might need a little work. I really just need a good cab to replace the one on my 69 GMC. I'm afraid I'll buy this one and turn it into another project...

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
Yeah, I'd also be weary of people too lazy to properly install new rockers. Who knows what else they half assed. Good luck and show us pics if you do get it!

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
In the third picture down, does it look like there's some problems with the door fit?
Maybe the floor was replaced, too, and not very well? |

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
...or poor door fit, or they did the cab corners and didn't get it quite right.
Given your location, if the cowl and windshield are good, it may still be worth buying even if you have to redo rockers/cab corners. Just be thorough in your look over, bring a flash light, look under the dash, etc.

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
One other consideration with replaced rockers is that if they are not done correctly the contour of the fender will not match the rocker and door either, don't ask me how I know...

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
Even though I have a truck that was originally from TX, then SC, it still could use new rockers. Dash and above windshield near perfect, but I'm originally from southwest NY, I know what a "bed sides falling off" "frame splitting in the middle" and "swiss cheese bondo cab" look like! My dad had a bunch of those trucks, a few were plow trucks.

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
I'd guess the rockers were replaced without first bracing the cab with weld in supports, then when the rockers were cut out the ends of the cab shifted in a little affecting the door opening. it can be fixed when new rockers are installed, but it helps to find someone to get some measurements at different points in a cab door opening that has not had the replacement done.
As said above look the whole cab over real good, especially around the windshield and gutter

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
if it is only a 1000K and it runs, I would still get it , rust and repairs is common on these trucks ,
Is that one located out in Suffolk??

This is the Craigslist posting. It is in Richmond if anyone else is interested in it. Supposed to be a 307 with 3 on the tree. http://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/5275985879.html

Re: Is this original sheet metal?
Wow, based on the looks of that tailgate, I would be very concerned with bondo covered rust. Seen it way too many times.
