So today I'm changing the fuel pump on my 65 c10 it's a sbc I've changed a many of fuel pumps on sec before so you know that hole in the front of the block that you put a longer bolt in to hold the fuel pump rod in place ? Well I thread in a bolt and it taps out with threads still left hmmmmm what gives well after a closed look the hole it not all the way through its as if it wasn't finished ? I have never seen this before till now . Any ideas as to why it's not all the way through?

Some aren't finished.
I've seen that a couple times.
Those bolt holes aren't intended as a convenient easy way to hold up the rod. They're there to bolt on the bracket for front mounts.

Don't know why yours is that way, however, I was taught that bolt hole was there as a motor mount hole, not intended as fuel pump rod holding access...it just happens we all learn to use it for that becasue it's easier than:

alternatively push greased rod up with needle nose pliers and then sorta..kinda use a very thin long screwdriver blade to barely hold it up while with your third hand put pump in place...which is why we learned to use the longer bolt trick.

Perhaps yours was simply never drilled & threaded through, eh?

My new GM 350 I picked up a year or so ago was also not drilled. Turned out to be a major PITA before I dumped the manual pump and went electric. First time I had ever seen the hole not drilled and threaded completely through.
