1970 gmc rearend
Would axles out of a 78 Chevy fit back in the 70 gmc rearend. Haven't ever messed with the gmc stuff and wasn't sure

Re: 1970 gmc rearend
Thats an open question, 2wd, 4wd, 1500, 2500, leaves, coils.. Chances are yes it would need different spring and shock mounts.

Axles or housing? The axles in a 73 up rearend are longer than either length 67-72's. 73 up Housing will "fit" with new perches & possibly shock mounts (leaf or trailing arm?).

Re: 1970 gmc rearend
axles will not slip in either 67-72 length housing. are you trying to switch to 5 lugs. early classic i think sells the shortened 5 lug axles. but 70 is a dual length axle year. youll have to measure the rear end before you order

Re: 1970 gmc rearend
when i put the 73 rear in my 70 leaf spring chevy the 70 6 lug axles and drums went right in and worked fine...after i converted to front discs i put 5 lugs back in....i believe 67-69 housings were narrower and axles shorter

1970 GMC 2wd SWB leaf spring rear. The plan was to take the axle shafts out of a scrap '78 2wd truck and swap them into my 1970 axle shafts in order to convert to 5 lug.
