I got it bad: another 5 hour one-way drive for parts.

I took my outer grill to a metal polisher some 5 hours away. I should be able to pick it up in a couple of weeks. Two day trip, I just got back in.

There are days I miss having access to airplanes....of course....having to rent cars once I got there was a pain too.

You could've polished it in 5 hrs with a drill, rag ,flitz and a Harbor freight buff.

Re: I got it bad: another 5 hour one-way drive for parts.

I know the feeling, I am making a 4 hour one way trip this Sunday for a set of bucket seats and last month I made three 4 hour round trips just because I could not fit all the parts in my truck in one trip, or two for that matter. I sometimes wonder why I do this kind of stuff, but then I realize because it's a good deal and for some reason I have to have it

Sometimes you just want to go on a road trip.

The longest parts run I did was a +/- 8 hour round trip for a free bench seat with a new cover. Gas was about $1.30/gal back then.

Re: I got it bad: another 5 hour one-way drive for parts.

I took it to Metro Plating in MD. I first drove up to Martinsburg in WV and stayed with a friend. His daughter thinks I am some sort of "bald for his age and really tall kid" so she hangs after me. Sweet as she can be! I let her carry the outer grill in and she "helped" me remove those u fasteners or whatever those are called.

My friend is about as "metro" as they come so working on anything is not something she gets to see very often.

The next day (yesterday) I drove over to MD to drop off the part and headed back. I drive sorta slow (car gets much better mileage at 55 compared to 70) so it took me about 7 hours to get home yesterday. Car averaged 37 mpg even with all the Mad Max influenced driving insanity I 495 is.
