220HP Air Cleaner
After examining what I believe to be my '67 'Burb's original air cleaner, I'm puzzled as to why Chevy put such a small-mouthed air cleaner on a 4-barrel carburetor that would, seemingly, nearly meet if not exceed the flow capacity of the air cleaner snorkel. I know the 220 horse top end isn't high-flow by a long shot, so is the snorkel size just deceiving or is it a tight point in the induction system? Assuming my air cleaner hasn't been swapped somewhere along the way. The snorkel mouth can't be much more than 1 1/2" dia.

Re: 220HP Air Cleaner
Is yours anything like the one in the picture below? It's original to my 69 3/4 ton with 350.

Re: 220HP Air Cleaner
Not sure but I bet it flows about as well as the factory single exhaust....

Re: 220HP Air Cleaner
Firstowner69, the snorkel looks similar in size, but the housing is taller. Here's a pic:
![]() Dad had full dual 2"? exhaust installed back in about '99 so I don't have to worry about that. ![]()

Re: 220HP Air Cleaner
That's the same one on my 1967 327 220 hp . Grumpy old man , same here I'll never forget the sound of that four barrel kicking in. Even if I was only twelve behind the wheel when it first started........sssshhhh mom was sleeping.

Re: 220HP Air Cleaner
Okay. I was pretty certain it was. I wouldn't think the air needs for the current engine is much different than the 220HP, but might I be wrong? Current setup is the stock 220HP carb./intake on a >9:1 comp. 350 w/1.94 "624" heads and a Goodwrench 290HP cam.
