Two piece fan shroud
After a day of fighting a one piece fan shroud I’m ready for other options.
Does anyone make a nice two piece shroud for 1969 C20 P/U? Or can I modify my one piece? |

There are 3 or 4 different shrouds for these trucks. You may have the wrong one? Pictures of your problem?

Did you try removing the fan, inserting it into the shroud and then installing? I also had to trim 1.5" from the bottom of an ac shroud because I have a long water pump.

After my post yesterday I took a more in-depth look at the overall problem.
Since I have a long pump the fan sits further down in the shroud than it shroud, which makes it a pain to do anything with the belts. Plus there is only about 1/4" clearance between the alternator pulley and the shroud. My guess is over the years this problem was compounded by the various owns of the truck. An engine swap, a bigger radiator and few band aids……. you get the picture. As a short term solution. In my frustration I took the shroud to my woodshop and had a meeting with the band saw….. now it is a two piece! Now I need to look for the proper shroud for my application, but I have time. |

I understand your situation completely. Im in the same boat. I did some trimming on mine too. It isnt permanent though. I may go electric.

What engine do you have in your truck? I have a SBC with a lwp, fan shroud, and full size clutch fan. You have to lower the shroud and the fan down together, then let you can make it happen. It isn't cut and dry simple, but it isn't hard.

I think what gmebey is talking about is his fan blades are placed too far into the shroud. The shroud itself is too close too the alternator. Mine is due to the 4 row radiator being so thick. I trimmed my shroud back about 1 1/2" to uncover the fan blades.

My setup is a SBC 350, long pump, 4-core radiator and no AC.
In order to avoid removing the radiator I had to trim about 2” off the bottom of the shroud in the truck to clear the water pump. I have opted for a short term solution and will either find a better shroud or go electric fan. Thanks for the help. |
