I have five GMC grilles

4 '69-'72. And a '68. The '68 is not in question and different entirely from the others(painted argent silver at the moment).

Two of the '69-'72 are chrome and black satin and two are chrome everything. Do the ones that don't have the black satin just have the paint rubbed off over the years, or did GM not add it til '71?

So the question is: When did they get the black satin? '69 or '71?

I think 71-72 had the black accent.

Thats what I thought but there was an all chrome grille on my '71. So, must be a replacement.

Re: I have five GMC grilles

68,69, and 70 are all the same. They are just like the '67 except they don't have GMC stamped. 71 and 72 grilles are stamped different. The area that gets black accent is stepped down from the edges that stayed chrome. The center bar is wider, too. The paint wears off, but '71 and '72 both had same paint

Aha, I figured special k would be the one to chime in with the info. So I have a '68-'70, and four '71-'72's. It amazes me that the paint wears off so completely with no patches or evidence that it was ever painted. I looked again and actually only one has the paint fully intact as original. The others appear to have never been painted at all, but they are definitely the different stamp stepped down from the edges and wider center bar. Thanks for clearing that up

Re: I have five GMC grilles

Is there a sierra71grande out there... yet? Yeah, the paint on chrome likes to burn off.
