Might be picking up a 01 4x4 Friday. Problems?
I found a 01 4x4 for pretty cheap and would like to know what to look out for as far as problems. It already has a bunch of little things wrong but they can all be fixed in an afternoon. (washer bottle, broken hood latch handle, 4x4 switch going bad, cracked windshield) I will be taking it for a drive tomorrow and will listen for the steering shaft clunk and stuff like that. It has 188K on it but they guy only wants 3 grand for it o I figure with all the little fixes and if nothing major is wrong with it I should come out ahead.

Guess it's a little late.
The 4x4 is not always the switch, Sometimes the encoder motor is bad. If you can, check the temp and see if it's cold before you start it to see if it has the dreaded piston slap. If he has driven it or has started it prior to getting there that day, it won't do it. Look for the same things you would on any other car/truck. Leaks, smoke, noises, rust, check engine light on, does the transmission shift normal in all gears, windows and door locks work, that sort of thing. |

Turns out the guy was a flake so I passed on the truck. I will still be looking for a 2001 or newer 4x4 in the future. Thanks for the advice! I did find a 2001 GMC with new tires, wheels, lift kit oh and 25K on it. But they want 15 grand for it. lol
