73-77 vin plates
I went to look at a truck today (74 and it struck me odd that the VIN plate was mounted longways on the left door pillar.. For whatever reason I thought they were mounted by the factory directly below the door striker wide side to the top numbers right side up.... anyone have photos of a properly placed VIN tag? im afraid to buy any of these older trucks now

Re: 73-77 vin plates
Here's my old 76 cab after I stripped it of everything and took the rust bucket to the scrap yard.

Re: 73-77 vin plates
The rivet is the important part, a plain pop rivet is the dead giveaway.

Re: 73-77 vin plates
My 73 vin plate is like what old Rusty C10 first described...wide side towards striker.

Re: 73-77 vin plates
My 74 is long-way sideways and my 76 and both 75s are like the pics above and my 74 was built December of 73 so Iit could have been a 73s placement in my case

Re: 73-77 vin plates
I just looked at a 76 that had the plate mounted horizontally. The 74 Cheyenne Super parts truck that I picked up today has it mounted vertically.
