Hello,

new member here. I am removing a 350 and installing a 250 Intg. head engine, (completely rebuilt and balanced) into a 1971 GMC C-10. (I prefer the simplicity of the 6 Cyl. engine.) After all of the problems of the brackets A/C ect.. I am now having problem finding the correct engine mounts. I am including pictures of the mounts that came off the 250, and the two parts of the 350, one in truck. I do not know what mounts to use to install the 250. seeking advice.

The motor mounts in your fourth and fifth picture are the style you should use but without them in front of me I can't tell is the are for a 6 or 8 cylinder. They are very similar in size but if you have the correct mounts in the correct location it should drop right in.

i have a set of 6 cyl mounts cleaned and painted w/ flat black paint. they will need a touch up on the paint again. $45 shipped if your interested. thanks.

pics 1,2,3 are probably from a car 6 cyl. #4 will work with 6 cyl. stands in the rear xmember/frame holes 396ci shows.. pic 5 are 8 cyl stands in the 8 cyl xmember/frame holes.

is their a difference between the frame mounted part of the engine mount on a 6 Cyl. and an 8 Cyl.?

hi russ,

welcome to the forum!

both use the same mounting holes but i believe the difference is the angle of the mounts and therefore v8 and 6cyl are different.

This is true, although I believe 6 cyl. and big blocks used the rear holes while the sbc used the front set of holes on the frame/xmember. In your 5th photo it shows sbc mounts in the forward holes. you need the 6 cyl. mounts bolted to the rear holes. (about 3 inches back).

That is correct...the 6 cyl. mounts use the middle & rear holes in the frame.

I hope I am posting this correctly

I was just curious and wanted to pick your brain... how much simpler is an I-6 to a SBC? They are both some of the simplest designs on the planet when it comes to troubleshooting and working on them mechanically.

Anyways...just curious as to what makes an I-6 simpler than a Chevy small block?

2 less cylinders, 2 less pistons, 4 less valves, rockers, pushrods, springs, 2 less plugs 2 less plug wires, OHHH, forget it...LOL

Still on motor mounts

I just received item 3 in the first Pic. From rockauto they said it would fit 6 cyl. From 1965-72 and pickup's 71 &72. However it does not. The “B” measure on items 1 &2 is 3” on item 3 it is 31/2”. The “A” measure on 1 is 27/8”, and on 2 it is 21/2”, on 3 it is 31/4”. Item 2 is formed to compensate for the lower block leaning inward. #1 is pretty much vertical. I received the frame part of the mounts from 396CI.

Still looking for help, what goes onto the block?????
