Grill change from 1970 to a 1972 style?
Can you install a 1972 grill into a 1970 truck? If so any changes necessary. Hoods the same?
Any info on what it takes would be great. Thanks. Mark Posted via Mobile Device |

Yes you can. I have had a 72 grille/ bumper on my 69 for the past few years. 69-72 are all interchangeable. The grille support brackets are different but that is about it. Hoods and fenders are the same.

You'll need a 71-72 front bumper as well.

you just need the later bumper if you want the directionals down there...i just hid mine behind the grille...the later hood latch is different but i dont remember exactly where the release lever winds up...the early one is useable, you have to stick your fingers through the squares of the grille to operate it but if you arent careful you can crack the grille...thank you to my snap-on dealer who wanted to see the big block and broke my nos grille...didn't even get a free hat out of it

Quote:
My dad broke my grill that way (back when he owned the truck) so he traded (stole) my brother's grill from his 1971. My brother never noticed. This would have been about 1988. Although the "egg crate" grills look nice, they are weak as can be. The earlier 1967 to 1968 grills were much better, IMO. |

71-72 grill on my 69. The grill supports on the left and right side had to be drilled out and riveted onto the new grill but it fits great. Debating on painting the lower piece to match the truck to make the lines look a little neater as I am not going to put a bumper on it. I like the look of the roll pan. I mounted the blinkers to the core support and installed LED bulbs.

I agree. Paint that lower lip of the grille if using roll pan instead of bumper. It does give a more uniform look that way. Hidden sigs are a cool touch as well.
