floatless/tube style sending unit
Hi guys
I was hoping someone here had converted to a floatless/tube-style fuel sending unit. I have an 87 blazer tank in my 71. The float arm style sending unit is newer, but it just shows erratic readings when less than half full. So, I saw these tube style sending units that are typically used with fuel cells with foam. It seems like this would be the fix for me. I understand that id have to modify the tank to accept one. Any reason why these wouldnt work? Any experience with these? Good? Bad? thanks! |

Re: floatless/tube style sending unit
I have one in my 65 Buick wagon. It's a simple install really. Measure the depth of the tank (top to bottom), find out what ohm resistance your factory level sender is, and go to egauges.com. find the sender you want. The sender should be as long as possible without bottoming out. My tank was 7 inched deep, so i got the 6 inch sender.

Re: floatless/tube style sending unit
Mine works great. I stripped a 99 Silverado and put the drivetrain, wiring harness, dash cluster and steering column into the 65 wagon. I had an issue with the ohms required to toggle the dash gauge from the Silverado. Egauges.com has a decent selection of tube float level senders. I picked the one I needed, installed it with self-tapping screws, and wired it up. The hardest part was drilling the one-inch hole for the tube float, only because I didn't want to ruin my fuel tank if I did something wrong. But everything went smoothly.
