New Fuel Tank

Hello Folks,

Recently picked up a '70 GMC 1/2 ton. 250 straight 6, 4 on the floor and the optional leafs out back. Took the fuel tank out of the cab to clean it, cleaned it, then it started leaking. I hate the idea of an in cab fuel tank so I am looking at relocating. I am aware that I can buy a blazer/jimmy/suburban tank and mount it out back. That's not the issue. My problem is that I want to do an EFI swap in the future (who knows could be LS, TBI, FAST.. etc.) I need a tank that will work now for my carbureted application, as well as be EFI ready in the future. I'm not a fan of inline fuel pumps and would like to go with an in tank set up when the time is right. A friend of mine told me to get an 88-91 blazer/burb tank, as that is when TBI came around. I'm just.... not yet savvy enough to know if this work for me now and in the future.

I would go with a Boyds tank. Just got mine and it's awesome. I am running a SBC with a carburetor but may possibly do EFI in the future. The tank allows me to do this because they engineer the EFI hole/plate so later on all I have to do is buy an EFI setup and it bolts right in.

I was drooling over those earlier. The only downside is that I live in Canada. This kit with the sending unit, mounting straps and rollover vent will end up costing me $636 Canadian maple dollars plus shipping and brokerage fees. I'd be damn near if not over 1000 bucks for a fuel tank.

I'd put some thought into where the fill nozzle will be located. I realize a great many guys on this site see their trucks as "show pieces only" but I like to haul in whatever I own.

If you put that nozzle in the floor of your bed....that could be a problem sometime.

That's merely a picture of the top fill tank. They sell side fill tanks as well. Any answers pertaining to my question?

How far does this hang down in the back? I am trying to avoid the tank being seen from behind.

Maybe a Camaro tank then? They are all gonna hang down some unless you raise the floor and then the tank. Once the bumper is on you have to bend down to really see it.

You can use a 69 Camaro fuel tank. Tanks inc. make them already set up for fuel injection. You can make a block off plate for it, then remove it when you're ready to go FI. It fills through the license plate area on a sport bumper, so no holes in the bed.
