So tell me about the 1964 4X4 1/2 ton long beds

I found one (GMC) and was going to buy it but it's not compleatly original, it has a Chevy 350 in it that seems to be a common replacement engine. It is a K series and original 4X4. Anyone know about how many were made? Good trucks? I know quite a bit about the 67-87's but not much about these.
Thanks

I don't know about a 1/2 ton LWB 4X4....I know they had 3/4 ton models. I would wonder if its on the original frame or if it was converted over.

Re: So tell me about the 1964 4X4 1/2 ton long beds

Agree with "TJs Chevy" that the frame is a good place to start evaluating the trucks originality. Their are production numbers available on certain model from GM heritage. Production numbers for chevrolet 64' K10 long bed fleetside are around 1200 to 1300, if I remember correctly.

Just posted some frame pictures on build "64' K10 Project Long Bed" , that may help some. A few thing to look at are certain parts riveted, frame holes that 4x4 have, spring length, frame crossmember that supports radiator, transfer case crossmember mounting to frame rails ( is it a Rockwell t221) . Their should be lots more information here to help.

I remember reading somewhere that there were under 2000 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4s built in 1964, but I can't find the article now. I have one, so if you need pictures of anything, I can get them.

Re: So tell me about the 1964 4X4 1/2 ton long beds

The original thread started as a GMC question but it has morphed into some 1964 Chevrolet K10 information so I am throwing this out there, FYI.

According the to the GM Heritage center, they don't have the GMC numbers but they do indicate Chevrolet built 1,324 1964 K10 LWB Fleetside trucks.

The morph to chevrolet was me, thought some of the Chevrolet information might relate to GMC. Hope some of it helped a little.
