correct positioning rear view mirror - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Can someone help me to find the correct positioning of the interior rear view mirror in a 1980 chevy 1/2 ton? Original has been missing along time and there is no residual glue left from the factory install. Is there a measurement or template so I can get this on correctly? Any thoughts?

Mine is lined up right with the windshield antenna

If you wanna get technical it measured 29.5 inches from drivers side trim and 16.5 inches from the dash pad upward.

I cheated and used one I found at pull-a-part out of a Chevy Spectrum. It snaps into a bracket that screws into the cab roof. No more trying to find the magic brand of glue that really works. The color even matched my 75 tan color. Looks like it could have been factory.

Kinda hard to explain, so I hope this makes sense:

I suggest adjusting the ball pivot so the mirror is half way between fully up and fully down. Then hold it up to the windshield and find the vertical position that gives you the best angle through the rear window. Since I am 6' 2" tall, mine ended up a little lower than stock, giving me a straight shot through the rear window.

I'm 6'3 and put it all the way up in tint strip for a clean look and out of my line of sight.

But my problem with that is, in order to see well behind the truck, I end up looking out the top half of the rear window, along with cab interior above the window. And my truck sits almost level. My mirror doesn't appear to be OEM, so maybe the arm is too short. ???
