New here and introducing myself and truck
Hi guys, I just joined this board and look forward to learning what I can about these trucks and apply it to my build.
My name is Jerry. I live in Illinois and took a trip to Daytona Florida last week to go to the Turkey Run. Long story short I got a souvenir from Florida. A 68 Chevy swb step side. My plans for the truck are to tear it down, clean the paint the frame, under body and any and all components then reassemble. Doing a LS swap, Most likely 5 bolt wheels with front disc brakes, change out the cab fuel tank with a frame mount. I have been reading posts and builds. If I can get some help and guidance as far as these changes I would appreciate saving me research time. I need to find out what to use for front disc brakes. I think I can use 73 and up brakes as long as I use the control arms? Not sure what to get for rear axles w 5 x5 pattern. I was told I can use a 91ish Suburban gas tank in between the rear frame rails. I'm almost done w a LS swap in a S 10, Any preference on LS motor mounts? The truck does need patch panels that are with the truck. Rockers and cab corners. The wood in bed in nice. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: New here and introducing myself and truck
Congrats on the excellent souvenir! I'll be in for watching the build. I missed it, or you didn't mention anything about lowering? Will you be keeping it stock height?

Re: New here and introducing myself and truck
thanks every one. I'm making a trip after Christmas to pick it up and bring it home.
I'm sure I'll lower it some what. Not sure how much yet. I've been looking thru builds and pictures and have seen some where I really like the stance. I also been thinking about going w a disc brake conversion and keeping the 6 lug and go with a late model 20" wheel. What I'm leaning towards is getting the body down to the tire. |

Re: New here and introducing myself and truck
I must say that's one of the best souvenirs I've ever seen. It must have been a great vacation. I've got a 70 I'm about to start on so I'm in to see what all ideas I can snag from your build. Good luck.

Re: New here and introducing myself and truck
Awesome looking truck. Can't wait to see your progress. I did a 6.0 swap in a '70 last year (on a budgetish) you can use 71+ for disc brakes but you may be money ahead just ordering a 6 lug disc kit so you don't have to swap the rear axels. There are a few threads you can read thru for all the disc swap info you could ever need. In my build I listed parts as I used them but to directly answer your question, I used early classics sheet metal mounts in the stock v8 holes. I could have pushed the motor back about 3-4" and helped with weight distribution. You should also look at this thread
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=358692 It helped me a bit. Some of the stuff was over my budget but it is fun to dream about.

Re: New here and introducing myself and truck
Oh and you can pull 5 lug axels out of any 12 bolt that shares the same spline pattern
