Whining noise?
I have a low speed whine in my 72 2wd I have replaced center support bearing,u joints,pan hard bar and a new rear pinion yoke seems to be getting worse instead of better.

My other question is did all big block trucks come from factory withTH400 trannys in 72?

Have You narrowed down the approximate location of the whine? Couls even be a wheelbearing describing it like that.

Does the noise differ when accelerating/decelerating ? Turning corners ?

Looks like the group wants you to focus on the wheel bearings or pinion bearings. Since you're replacing driveline parts I'd take a look at those pinion bearings. If the yoke wasn't properly tightened that could cause the problem.

I am thinking differential noise ring and pinion or the carrier/axle bearings? change in the noise on accel/decelerate would to be coming from the rearend.

The ring/pinion, axle bearings and case side bearings are turning 1/4 of the speed of the pinion/ driveshaft. The noise they make when bad is described as a growling noise. Bad pinion bearings make a whining noise

It starts about 15-20 mph and gets worse about 45 and it does get worse when accelerating don't seem to hear it when you get up past 55 or so.I was told I probably screwed things up when I tightened the yoke down.I didn't think I really over tightened it but I guess its possible.
