New heater core Vs. Old heater core

I have a 66 burb. I bought a new heater core from the local auto parts store but the core is a smaller in dimensions. The old one is longer than the new one. I called to confirm the correct part and they said yes. The research I have done so far on the internet tells me it is the correct part number. I could probably fab something up to make this work but I would prefer to have the correct heater core so that it has the full capabilities to heat up the entire cab.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Mine is a little smaller too. I had to bend the hold downs inward a little to hold it. The other thing I have an issue with is the placement of the tubes. I can't get my bracket on them.

The brand of the heater core is Pro Source and the number is 91691

OK I gave the local auto parts store another try. This time I decided to look under an alternate year. I noticed that there was a heater core for a "fresh air" heater and another option. "Re-circulation" or something like that. Under details of the heater core by Murray P#94691 the dimension of the core matched up and the picture looked the same. So I ordered that one. Well I got the core and installed it. It fit like a glove. no shimming, no bending or anything.

Lessons learned include:

always verify the guy behind the counter, unless you deal with vendors from this forum. They are pretty damn good at what they do.

ask for help and/or research this forum. There is lot of info on here.

Now we have two known part numbers for the suburban "fresh air" heater core

Murray Part # 94691 (O'reilys)
and
pro-source Part # 91691

It looks like that one you got from O'Reilly's, Murray #94691, is aluminum? The one I got Pro Source 91691 is copper and brass. I actually bought that one as I had to have the end tank switched so that I can use it in one of my '63's Deluxe heater with the Ranco valve. That wouldn't work with the aluminum heater core. Just a FYI for others reading this.

I ordered the Murray #94691 for my 66 last week and it bolted up to my cover without any hiccups and it even came with the support. The hole in the support bracket even lines up.
