Secret Project Revealed!

Well here it is the answer to why I would weld a bunch of angle iron to a truck hood.... The Bubba Bed! (see bubba below) as much as he is obsessed with my truck figured I needed to come up with one of his own or at least part of one. that and he refuses to sleep in his toddle bed, not sure if he actually will sleep in there or not but it's way cooler than that shopko junk it replaced. I have to give a big SHOUT out to Eric at Eric's auto for hooking it up with paint and donating the hood, hinges, grill and hopefully some headlight buckets and trim rings. I was going to just shoot it with some ford blue implement paint but he came over to the house for thanksgiving and seen it for the first time and didn't hesitate donating the paint and labor when he seen how it turned out (originally he thought I was nuts too). hopefully you all enjoy it's not 100% complete yet have to paint the inside of the toy box get the lights all hooked up (and hopefully working) and most importantly go buy him a mattress and bed set.

i'll have the rest of the pic's in here shortly

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

Nice work!

And picking up from hamjet's great idea you could also mount a pair of those 1970 style dual tone horns and hook them to the alarm clock so that he can wake up in time for school.

I think those horns draw six or eight amps (each?) so it would be hard to sleep through the alarm clock.. even when he gets to be a teenager; though maybe you could upgrade to the Caddy quad horns when he turns 13 to be sure.

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

thanks all, i'm not sure about the horns but i'm going to rig up the lights. probably put the headlights on a timer so he doesn't leave them running all the time and the park lights on a off/on switch. just got to get some kind of power supply to run them or try and knock out the back of the head lights and put some 110v led's in there.

Instead of being sent to bed, he gets to be sent to his hood. That's way cool.

added a little xmas cheer to it, also he figured out there's just enough room left inside the fenders to disappear from momma and she just loves that!

That is pretty bomb for the young man. I am sure he will remember what Papa did for him when he was a kid.

GOOD TIMES!

And pretty funny for the rest of us! Haha send him to his hood!

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

thanks! I was reading some comments on another thread about not cutting up good sheet metal and wanted to make sure you all knew this sheet metal was trash. there's a ton of bondo just to get it the way it is now and it's still pretty bad. especially that hood took a huge hit in the center it's about inch thick of bondo hoping to find a hood emblem with broken studs to glue/2 sided tape it on.

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

Awesome bed. Glad no one has said "thats not safe". Does he need a ladder? Seems high. I saw the wheel wells and first thought was a great fort space. Definetly something he will remember.

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

it did end up higher than what I had envisioned it would be but he climbs right up no problem. it will be getting some rails around it once we get a mattress just to be safe. other thought I had would have been to notch out the hood so the bed sat on top of the fenders and went threw the hood.

My guess is that if anyone commented about, "not cutting up good sheet metal" for this project, bondo or none, they don't have kids.

What could be more important....Bravo, wrecked!!!

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

thanks, it was on a different thread about hood scoops just wanted to make sure nobody thought I sacrificed something good for this kinda hard to tell from the pic's here's the donor my parents bought it in the 80's for $50 wish somebody wouldn't have stolen the hood though cause I would have went with the patina look to match the dents. in the for ground is my front clip wanted to use it but it was way to trashed.

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

Thats great. All he needs now is a cab fort with tinted windows. Cut out the floor and firewall and adjoin it with the crawl-in toy box. Then a flatbed trampoline

oh man you're going to get me in trouble the floor is already gone from the donor truck cab.... I did think about clipping just the front of a cab and mounting in on the wall and attaching the bed to it so it looked like truck drove into the room but I decided to cut cowl area out so it was smaller

Re: Secret Project Revealed!

There was a pic of one on here a while back of a 47-54(I think) that used the back window of the cab as the headboard and the truck bed as the kids bed. The truck appeared to be pulling into a garage door that was built into the wall
