1968 cab weight

I would like to know the weight of a stripped out 68 Chevy cab ? No glass , nothing . Bare shell.
I am guessing less than 500 # but I de need to know.

I guess it would weigh about the same as a 69-72 cab if that helps, but I know it doesn't. I'm gonna guess it is a little more than the 500LBS your thinking

No way a bare cab weighs 500,I would say closer to 300 and that is probably too much as well

Id say 300ish my brother and I Could lift mine around but 3 people made it easier. I ended up building a cab bracket for my engine hoist which mad it a 1 person job.

Me and my brother in law carried mine by ourselves, but we're more dumb than strong

Me and another guy were able to tip one up on one side and get it started onto my trailer then push it up all the way fairly easly, we didn't try to pick it all the way up.

I installed a cab all by my self with no help. You don't need a special hoist or a modified motor jack. A transmission jack will do it. A cheap one can be bought at Harbor freight for about eighty dollars. In fact it is easier than multiple persons setting it by hand. You just have to remove brackets that support tranny on trans jack. You just have to center jack on center of cab and make sure its perfectly balanced. Use cardboard or plastic/ foams to avoid scuffing chassis or cab. It will also allow minimize resistance when you push cab into place.
Jack cab and roll it to one end of chassis. Once the cab is laid on one side of the chassis beam, push it further in and replace jack on other end (where cab is not supported by chassis). then just pushed it until it is in place. It's real simple should take no more than 5 minutes to lay on chassis cab area. It is noted I did not have exhaust system on it, although transmission engine and its cross members were on it. Of course this can not be done if jack not rolled on hard smooth surface.

Oh, I would speculate the cab is under 300 lbs, but I am not sure.

If you do lift it by hand be prepared it's likely going to be pretty nose heavy.

Well , I built a overhead support right against the outside garage doors , I used my 3500#
Winch attached to the over head support and lifted it off the frame.
The over head support is made out of a 2 x10 on edge bolted to 2 vertical 2x8 's attached to the door jam openings .
The winch is bolted to the 2x10 and I had a straight vertical lift . Based on the information about the vertical stress of a 2x8 & 2x10 I could lift about 800 #

So everything worked out great. Thanks everyone for your help.
