tie rod end fitment

Will a 2004 tie rod end fit a 70 c-10 spindle? I want to convert to power rack and pinion and dang if I can find dimensions for a tie rod end to compare the two. I hate the idea of drilling a new spindle to use a heim rod end and a bolt, just trying to find another way to skin this cat!

Thanks,

Chip

I am sure it is a bigger taper like the 73 and up are. Any good machinist should be able to measure the taper and tell you if you have enough meat to bore your spindle to match.

Re: tie rod end fitment

You need one more measurement to determine the taper and that is how far apart those two measurements are. You can have the same numbers but if they are not the same distance apart they are not the same taper.

The tool a machinist will be familiar with is called a Morse taper reamer.

Re: tie rod end fitment

Not all tapers are standard morse tapers. Couple of the tapers used are 1.2, 1.5 and 2.0 inches taper per foot. for tie rods. Once you know the taper, then you can set up in the mill and ream to the correct depth of taper. Some tie rods may be the same taper just the depth of taper is different. So the one made with more depth of taper wont fit in the hole for the one made with less depth of taper even though the taper is the same.
