Bolt on mustang ii

Looking to make a few changes to my truck over the winter, one of which is to lower it a bit more and run bigger tires/ rims. Currently using the ifs from a '79 half ton with dropped spindles & cut coils which has worked fine for my current setup, but looking at the lower control arms the scrub line would be too dangerous.

I'd been looking into the bolt on unit from Speedway Motors Part # 91044754, but recently came across what looks to be the identical setup on EBay sold by Gearhead World item # 201453764942 for considerably less. Anyone familiar with them?

Ask Gearhead World who makes it. It looks EXACTLY like the Speedway kit I put in my 55 1st

Yeah, I know, I downloaded them yesterday. I did call Gearhead, I think it's the same kit for almost half the price!

I confess, I bought the gearhead set up and used the Speedway instructions..
The gearhead set up comes with all the bolts and they are a size smaller than what the SW instructions call for, other than that it was a simple upgrade.. I will be using the SW bolt in motor mount kit that fits the cross member..

On second thought it came, with a bottom shelf brand of bearings but for what it saved in $$ I will replace bearings,Ball Joints and brake pads before it hits the streets. They would be fine I'm sure, I'm just anal on some parts..

Got mine in over the weekend & based on the instructions from SW, it looks pretty simple. Haven't ordered the components yet, EBay has one I'll more than likely go with.

I saw the one that the predecessor company of Premier street rods sold on a display chassis a number of years ago and was impressed with it. No matter which one you get I still like the idea that you can do it with a tape measure, half inch electric drill and hand full of wrenches and it doesn't require any high degree of skill.

It sure beats the snot out of those "universal" where do I cut it and how much kits for almost the same price.

Went with the Gearhead unit, ordered the bolt in motor mounts from SW, they should be here tomorrow. Found another seller eBay with a kit for $889 that includes:

Don't know if it's true or not? I have hears Gearhead sells on the bay under several different names..

I thought I bought mine from gearheads but I just looked it came from rodpartsdealer


The kit you are getting is close to the one I bought but mine came with a manual rack, I didn't get the drilled/slotted rotors and I chose the stock height spindles..

I did get the cross member with the kit, I ended up with 1,339 in the kit and $229.00 in shipping of the 6 heavy boxes..

I'm sure I will be upgrading at least Bearings,seals before it hits the road but for the $ I think it was a decent kit.. time will tell

From what I have read you are pretty well 67GMCKid. I've ordered pieces from them at times and had good service. I'm not sure about the strategy for selling under several names on Ebay unless it's to reach different markets.

Years ago I used to order engine parts from a parts house with a well known drag racers name on it that advertised in the back of Hot Rod and they always came with a receipt from a wholesale warehouse. I was getting the price that the parts houses got if they ordered the parts and it was their way of doing retail sales out the back door.

rodparts, gear head and about 9 others are the same company. When the feed back get to bad they fold it up and start up under a new name

I opted for the power rack package, the cross member was on sale for $375 with free shipping, the rest of the kit was $889 + $159 for shipping. I spent another $140 for the brake lines, power steering lines & pressure reducer so all totaled about $1533.

I hope I don't run into any issues. I called them to ask questions and the customer service was good. We shall see how it goes.

how do you bolt in a notch in the frame rail?

Only issue I had was everything (5) of the 6 boxes shipped in a day or so of payment. When the boxes got here there was a note in one box that the rotors would ship later, so a week later I called them to find out when I was going to receive them. The CS woman put me on hold for about 3 minutes when she came back she said I would have them in 2 Days and I did!

Had I of thought the whole thing out in advance instead of flying by the seat of my pants, I would have just bought a set of set of 11" Granada rotors locally and ordered My new ralleys to fit the 4-1/2 ford bolt pattern, it would have made things a lot cheaper in the future when a rotor needs replaced... If you check your bearing sizes you will find your rotors are 11" Granada drilled with the Chevy pattern ..

The worst parts of the whole install was the weeks worth of scraping, chiseling and scrubbing the dried sand filled grease off the frame and the stuff they had the parts coated in made me itch and scratch for a week after the job was done.

I believe that most all of the kits come with those. A few years back I put the CPP disk kit on my 57 straight axle, then I replaced it with a Scott's front end, and both had the same rotors.

I was wondering about that! Glad you cleared that up! That about the calipers, any idea what they are?

Yours is looking good! My components won't be here til next but I'm gonna start tearing mine down tomorrow.

Ok, thanks. One more question.... I'm looking over the instructions and it says to trim the radiator support for rack clearance but it doesn't really say how much. About how much did you remove from yours?

I went way overboard when I cut mine down, it looks nice but I may end up reworking it to add back some strength..

My Speedway kit uses 69-72 GM A-body rotors with their own kit of bearings and races to mate GM rotor to Ford knuckle
