Wondering what modifications you have to do to an A/C cab to put Vintage Air in it. Do you take the old stuff off the firewall, make a block-off plate, and then fabricate new holes or does the vintage air system go back where the factory system was?

They way I understand it is :You take the old stuff off (inside and outside)and put the new stuff on.
No fabrication required.
Everthing you need is included in the kit.
Except the freon and oil.
The kits are for either a factory a/c or non a/c cabs.
The non a/c cabs use vents that go under the dash.

It's really relatively straight foreward, and Hutch is right, no major mods. I did have to end up drilling one hole for a mounting bracket that I had to "tweak" so that the hoses coming out of the firewall would fit. The stock hole didn't allow enough room on one side. Feel free to PM me if you have specific Q's . I installed mine about 2-3 months ago and I LOVE IT!
Make sure you order the kit for either headders or rams horns. If you haven't seen the thread yet I posted an overview of the V.A> install on the FAQ folder.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...threadid=61810
You do have to buy a new belt for the compressor in addition to the freon. And if you are going to charge the system yourself(as opposed to a V.A. dealer......have them put in TWO cans of freon ONLY, don't let them try to charge the system based on pressures the way you'd do a factory system.

And I would advise that if you are going to do anything behind the dash or replace the dash pad in the future, I'd do it now coz the only difficult thing about the install is there ain't alot of room behind the dash once you get all the ducts and stuff in there.

The instructions say 1.8 lbs. I had to turnthe temp knob on the unit back, it frosted up my vents the first morning.

That's what the VA dealer told me. He said 2 cans usually does it. If you charge the unit like you might an OEM unit you'll overcharge and damage the compressor AND void the warranty. He said if your local A/C guy isn't willing to do this, find another one that is.

Just curious, did you follow the instructions about sealing the passanger side kick panel vent door, with the block off piece that came in the kit?
After I had installed I was wishing I had thought about it a little first, coz it's going to be hard to clean out leaves and cr@p out of the space behind the kick panel.

I've wondered about, but not actually attempted , using some sort of foam weather strip stuff. And maybe drill one or two holes on the firewall side of the opening(that plate has screws that go on the door side of the opening), so that you could pull off the plate once or twice a year and do some spring cleaning. It will take me til next year to do anything about it probably!:p
