Headers for 5.3 Swap?

Forum Members,

Need some help to figure out what headers will work for my 82 C10 5.3 swap. I have done my research and I still cant figure out a set that I can get that will for sure fit. I had purchased some headers that were used, that went to a LS1 corvette engine and they did not work. The issues were that the one of the tubes of the on the driver side of the engine was hitting the engine mount on the driver side. Also the collector were all tubes come together where also hitting the lower control Arm (A arm). These issues did not allow me to bolt it to the 5.3 engine, also these where long tube headers and that is what I am trying to get. Does anybody have any idea as to what set I can get that will work? The truck is lowered with 2.5 spindles and 3" lowering coils.

Re: Headers for 5.3 Swap?

I used the Schoenfeld 88-98 headers. I used the Dirty Dingo slider mounts with the motor about 3/4 of the way back. I had to slightly dent in a small spot on one tube on each side to clear the frame. I tried to load some photos but Photobucket hates me I guess.

Re: Headers for 5.3 Swap?

I used the pacesetter ls1 fbody longtubes, everything cleared fine and bolted up, I just trimmed alittle on the the frame mount. drivers side header does point slightly to the frame rail but the exhaust shop took care of that for me

Re: Headers for 5.3 Swap?

I used Dynatech ls swap 70-81 camaro headers . No trimming , no clearance problems , good clearance everywhere , easy install . You would think they were made for it on my 82 . I use homemade flat engine plates , oem motor mount and stock engine stands . You may want to get a different trans cross member . The drivers side collector points right at it . That was an easy fix . I used a universal double hump ( 3" rise) cross member from summit . Cross member mount is in stock position with 4l60e . Worked out great .

Good luck with your project
