lowering my longbed
Hey guys,Merry Christmas! My new present is an 86 Scottsdale longbed. It has the 4.3 v6 and a833 trans. I want to lower this truck in the rear 2 inches.
At least just to level it.Ive purchased lowering blocks but now should I use lowering hangers? I havent done this work before,my 67 has coil springs. So, blocks or hangers? After this is done, will the front need a drop too? Also, can I leave out the shortest leaf in the pack? Hopefully soften the ride maybe? This truck wont be hauling any major loads, just a good ride is wanted. If the front needs a drop that wont be a problem.Any help is greatly appreciated. Muley |

Re: lowering my longbed
you cant use lowering blocks on a vehicle that has the leaf springs on top of the axle. those are for vehicles with the leafs located under the axle.
you can use either 2 inch drop hangers or 2 inch drop shackles to bring the rear down. shackles are easier to install but youll need to notch the bed frame. hangers are a little more difficult to install because you need to grind the factory rivets off. neither option is complicated and pretty straight forward. lowering the front is all up to you. theres no actual need for a drop unless you want it to sit lower. how many leafs does your truck have? |
