Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) and push button start
Gentlemen,
A few years ago I purchased a new daily driver and although I thought it was stupid at the time, I've really come to appreciate the PKE system. Lock the doors, unlock the doors, and start the ignition - all without ever taking the fob out of your pocket. Kits are pretty reasonable ($145 on Amazon) and since I'm in the middle of wiring the truck anyway, it seems like a good time. http://www.amazon.com/Starter-Password-Keyless-Uni... I read a few threads where people installed push button start systems, but couldn't find any where a full PKE was installed. Any success stories? I'm curious how you are unlocking the doors from the outside (my car has a button on the handle). Matt |

Found a site with an install on '68 C-10. They used Lokar handles.

Re: Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) and push button start
My keyless system is proximity based. I just walk up with the wireless key in my pocket and it unlocks the doors, there is no need to press a button. I could buy the press button start, but I didn't want to put that in since the column would still have the key cylinder (In my Firebird). Also, those systems only give you a cheap 40 amp relay to control all the accessory power in your car, it should really be something more substantial since the total power inside the car can exceed 40 amps. I bought a contactor to do the job instead of the typical Tyco relay, it's rated for 100 amps with a 12v control circuit

Re: Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) and push button start
I'm using this setup in my '69 with the Lexus 'slimline' starter button. It's a pretty neat system.
http://www.digitalguarddawg.com/auto...omotive/pbs-ii I have the same system they used in the article above, but without the electric Lokar handles used in the article. I also have a 100 amp circuit breaker on my setup - Gary Angel @ Street Driven Customs wired my system up and did a very nice job. I've never even owned a new(er) truck or car with this feature. I just thought it would be cool in an old truck. I also like everyone wigging out because I don't have a fuel injected LS motor after they see the push button start and my e-Stopp electric parking brake. Just a big block with carburetor. Heads would explode if I put an I6 & 3OTT in it...

Guard Dawg really marks up the price on those iKey systems. I have the same system, but from either a different "manufacturer" or resupplier. It is the SAME system and I paid only 2/3 the price. They do have more start button choices and I like that slim line Lexus. I may buy that and do the full start button system for my Camaro

Re: Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) and push button start
Notch back: what brand system are you using? So you are using stock door handles and just added a solenoid to the door lock mechanism? I don't see solenoids in the kit I posted, so I'd have to buy those separate.
BossHogg: looks like you have shaved handles, I assume you press a button on the fob to pop the doors? Obviously they don't just pop when you are in range. The push button feature is nice, but is not my driver for considering this.As dumb as it may sound, never having to take the key or fob out of my jacket pocket when using my DD has turned out to be a real nice feature I never knew I'd like. |

Re: Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) and push button start
I used http://www.advancedkeys.com/ . I don't have power door locks in the Suburban yet, so I can't comment. I plan on using a GM door lock motor, same thing as in my Firebird that I installed the system in.
It is very nice not having to worry about unlocking or re-locking the doors. You can have a handful of stuff and not have to stop and put it down |
