Spray in bed liners

I have a 68 GMC and the bed is in very good shape . I would like to use it with out scratching the paint . Do you all think a spray in liner devalues the truck ? Thanks for responding .

Re: Spray in bed liners

I don't know if it devalues the truck but if you have a good bed, I think it would be a shame to spray over it.

Re: Spray in bed liners

Always thought it was a funny contradiction to get a spray in bed liner to prevent scratching the bed when the first thing they do to install the spray in bed liner is to grind the hell out of the bed with 36 grit on a angle grinder.

Back in the late 80's early 90's when everyone had to have a bra on the front of their car especially if it was a Mustang or Camaro or Monte Carlo. Everybody said it was to prevent rock chips and bug splatter damage. But the bra flopping in the wind as you drive rubbed all the paint of the front anyway.

I also want to use my trucks bed so I had a sprayed in liner shot. I think it will be a little more forgiving than paint and I refuse to have a truck I cannot at least haul lawn chairs, ice chest, cleaning supplies, standard stuff I take to shows.
To each their own.

Re: Spray in bed liners

I'm always torn. If it's a truck that has collectible value, yes, it hurts value. But - if it's what you want in your truck because you use it, well then, it makes sense. Agree with the idea that it's strange that it has to be scratched up in order to get lined, but the liner is nicer when it comes to "not worrying about using your bed". Put it this way, I'm not gonna line my 72's bed, and will accept the scratches that will certainly come after it gets restored. On the other hand, strongly considering lining for my 76 k20, the work truck/zombie apocalypse get outta town down to business vehicle.... I WILL, however, try to do a paint matched liner (not a painted on top of liner approach, but color throughout). Line-X is far superior to rhino lining or DIY roll on liners. A rubber mat, as mentioned above, is also an excellent approach to this.

Re: Spray in bed liners

I don't build these trucks for collector value...I build them to enjoy. I enjoy them more when I can use them without worry about scratching a shiny bed floor, or fretting about the last time I waxed the wheel wells.

I say bed-line the wee out of it.

Re: Spray in bed liners

Use a rubber mat - Again - Use a rubber mat.

I think the 73 and up are a very close fit. Why mess up your bed with a spray in liner when a rubber bed mat will do the same thing.

Re: Spray in bed liners

I have a Line-X bed liner (black) in my 2008 Silverado (also black). I do like it. As far as my 1968 C10 goes, I asked the owner of the Line-X shop about a color match bed liner for the '68's bed. . . He told me that they have just a few basic colors to choose from - then they PAINT them! He showed me his own truck bed with this setup, and the paint was scratched on the liner. He actually advised against it.

The guys over at Edmunds have installed colour matched Line-X Bedliners in their long term F-150 and Ram. They describe the process a little differently. And if you check out the newer posts on hauling with the trucks, there is no visible scratching or discolouration.

that's funny I was debating to myself about this.. if my bed was in really nice shape i would just run the rubber mat.. but my bed is being cut down. so im just going to raptor liner it and call it good.

Re: Spray in bed liners

I went after my trucks replacement bed floor with DuPont roll in bed liner. I'm certain that there are nicer and prettier products but the cost of only 50 bucks for a gallon at Walmart makes it a good option. My truck is to be enjoyed and I'm certain that I will be putting "stuff" in the bed at some point.

Re: Spray in bed liners

I just had a tinted spray on liner done and it looks fantastic! This was the first one that this shop had done with a new product. The vendor came down to train the painters on how to mix and apply. Since my front inner fenders were sitting there, we masked them up and sprayed the inside of them.
