In Line Fuel filter

Hey guys

In an attempt to adjust my brakes I wanted to start it up and put it in reverse, but the truck isn't starting.

I check the filter in the carb and there is a spring and a cap in there but no damn filter...why the PO left that in there is beyond me.

The PO put an inline filter so I replaced with a Gold version from napa and now the motor won't fire over.

I'm wondering if it's possible that the filter material is too dense and isn't designed for a carbed motor but a FI setup? Anyone have any thoughts...I'll probably put the old filter filter on to test out theory just want to hear if anyone has any knowledge on this.

A quick google search just revealed that there is Hi Pressure and Low Pressure...I'm wondering if this is another NAPA moment for me.

every time there is a swap meet I buy those $2 plastic ones and use them I change them once a year and they work fine... Of course I am assuming that you have a good fuel pump and that you will be checking the dual tanks if you have them to make sure its ohming right?

Can you see through the NAPA filter? I always use the clear Fram ones so I know for certain if the engine is getting fuel.

Thanks Rusty, the guy at NAPA showed me the plastic one and I was concerned about the heat in the bay with plastic good to hear that it isn't an issue.

I haven't checked the pump. It worked a couple of weeks ago and now nothing. I swaped the old filter in and it still doesn't want to fire.

I'm beginning to wonder if some crud has been picked up and the carb is clogged.

As a quick check for fuel vs ignition problem, pour a small splash of gas down the carb and try to start. If it tries to fire, fuel problem, if not, ignition problem. Make sure you are chasing the correct problem.

Parrot thanks for the tip. I was planning on putting a bit down the carb vent...I read that's the best way...I'm still learning about carbs...and squares.

No you can't see though it's metal. There is an arrow directing flow.

I installed the old one - but never made note which way flow was before I took off as I thought I would scrap it...knowing my luck it's on backwards and all the crud is flowing to the carb.

No dual tanks on this setup just a single...with a bunch of crud at the bottom I'm sure.

I put a small amount of gas down the vent on the smaller primaries - I'm guess this is the correct vent? Tried to fire and nothing..you could hear it bump for just a second but nothing.

Just pulled a plug and it was black even had an oily residue on it, I'm hoping this is the issue.

Good news.

After visiting 4 stores I was able to find the correct plugs and after changing them and putting in the plastic fuel filter for 4 bucks it fired up first crank - the easiest start since I bought it.
