Question HEI Plug wire recommendations

I know this question will garner some snide remarks, chuckles, and gafaws from a select few, so please have some fun with it.

For those that want to actually help, here is my question.

I'm looking for plug wires of the correct length for the following application.

It's a small block 350 with an HEI. It has stock rams horn manifolds, complete with the stock plug heat shields. I also have installed the stock looms that bolt on the back of the block. Other than the HEI, it's the OE stock setup. I want to route the wires as they were routed for the stock points setup. That is, behind the block and up under the rams horn manifolds.

The wires NAPA gave me for a small block HEI are too short to route properly. It sits at stock height so too long is better than too short. I don't plan on "laying" plug wires.

Has anybody solved this, and what wires did you use? I prefer not to make my own wires.

1975 Corvette fits like a glove...they still had the ramshorns and were routed under like the trucks but had the HEI

I second the 75 Vette wires. I put a set on my 69 C20 with a 350 and HEI. Worked great for me and I'm using the back of the block mounted wire looms also.

Oh and I am pretty sure the engineers at GM did not design it with an HEI, so I think disqualifies you from using it...what if the next owner goes to NAPA and asks for plug wires for a 72 Chevy truck, they would get the wrong ones, bla bla bla...sorry somebody had to do it

Tom, you're correct. I'm just proving my own point. I was hoping someone would be on the ball here.

Now kids, what have we learned here?:p

CPNE: Do you have a pic of the stock wire looms for the front and rear. I'm doing mine that never had them before so any help would be nice, thanks...

But HEI isn't original. I also like the stock look but like the benefit of some newer things. HEI is one of them. My radio is another. My A/C system is aftermarket. If I had it to do all over again, I probably would have bought all the things missing on the truck when I bought it to return it to the stock A/C system setup. All in all my 69 C20 looks pretty much stock and will probably stay that way. As a friend of mine said " I like a truck that sits up proud" and the C20 certainly does that.

Hey CPNE,

Did you buy a HEI dizzy that is designed to look stock? If so, what and where did you get it?

No. I've been exposed for the fake that I am.

Seriously, to answer your question, it's a stock GM HEI unit. I'm sure you've heard of Pertronix. They make a setup that uses the points dizzy.

Yeah, i was just wondering if you bought some other high-end aftermarket unit designed to look stock. I've been looking at the Pertronix but just haven't gone there yet.

YOU ORIGINALITY GUYS CRACK ME UP. IF YOU'VE GOT A HEI INSTALLED... YOU'VE ALREADY BLOWN THE "STOCK TO THE BONE" CONCEPT ANYWAY, SO WHY NOT BUY A GOOD STRIPPER/CRIMPER, & GET YOURSELF A GOOD SET OF 8mm TAYLOR UNIVERSAL SPIRAL CORE WIRES, & MAKE THEM ANY LENGTH YOU WANT. BESIDES... IT'S KINDA HYPOCRITICAL TO PICK & CHOOSE WHAT MODERN OPTIONS ARE OK WHILE LOOKING DOWN YOU'RE NOSE AT OTHERS..... DONTCHA THINK

JYJ,

If you take the time to review everything I've ever commented on in the ongoing stock vs custom debate, 90% is done with irreverence and sarchasm, as was everything in this post. I have zero objections to making changes as one see's fit. I like the stock "look" as my preference but nowhere have I ever SERIOUSLY stated every nut, bolt, and screw need be correct or it's a sin, or for that matter, anyones preference contrary to mine is outright wrong (misguided yes <--SARCHASM). So I'm a little unclear as to why your comment is so hostile, unless it stems from the fact that my pitiful attempts at humor in the past have failed to stike you as I had intended. For that I apologise.

As for the crimpers, I've already picked up the 75 vette wire set for $18 at NAPA and if they don't route the way I want, I'll investigate that option.

Thanks and keep if FUN!

Stock-lite. Looks great, less trouble. I kinda like that.

Nothing wrong with picking modern options on an original truck. Driving something with a 2-speed powerglide, manual brakes and steering, points, drum brakes, and bias-ply tires isn't really an enjoyable experince. I prefer trucks with some "esseintal" upgrades, but a still stock look

Okay I feel stupid now. I wuz the one who missed the point.

Speaking of sawz-alls, I've been wielding one lately too. Replacing rusty rockers, cab corners, floors and supports, and pillars. Something you know nothing about

I beg to differ: I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Nowadays I have a 4-speed instead of a PG, and I can't even find Bias-ply in my size, but manual, drum brakes are still de rigeur, and I have PS only because my current truck came that way.

Gotta keep in shape somehow!

:p
