48 -53 door striker plates

I just mounted 48 doors on my 52. I WAS TOLD TO USE THE 48 STRIKERS, which I have. However, they don't mount flush like the 52's. ARE THEY MOUNTED WITH SPACERS OR IS THERE SOMETHING I NEED TO DO WITH CAB?

They do close and lock, so can anyone tell me the difference or why I should use the 48 striker's?

Thanks

They may need spacers/shims. This is the passenger side on a 49 Cab I have.

Drivers side on a 51 Cab

I think the strikers are missing on the 53 cab I have out in the shed.

Those are the strikers I have. But it appears they do not fit a 51 and up cab. Perhaps GM re designed That area? I hhaven't been able to find out yet.
But, the 47-50 doors I mounted, work with the newer strikers.

I'd have to look at the 53 Cab in the daylight tomorrow and see exactly what the difference is.

Re: 48 -53 door striker plates

As far as I know they are different door jams but in 52 they made some trucks with left overs from 51 and the made a striker plate to make the older doors work I have a picture some where I will see if I can find it and the picture here is my 55 first series

Re: 48 -53 door striker plates

The first striker is what was on the donor truck where I grabbed the doors. The second one is the one on my 52.

The cabs must be different as other than bolt pattern, the first one will not mount flush to the 52 cab.

But, since the early doors work, my quest here may be moot. However, just wanted to verify in case there is a reason to do anything.

Thanks

As soon as I saw this thread I went and found that photo and was going to post it, then saw you already did.

Yeah, the one on the left is the "swing handle" door striker, the second one is for the 51 Cab which was a push botton handle cab when they put the earlier swing handle doors on it, the farthest to the right is the regular push button striker.

The factory did this, so of course using the middle striker on any cab from 51-54 for swing handle doors would do the job.

You have to be careful, they may look like they work good but can open much easier, I remember mine to open without turning the handle!

I won't play with worn out stuff anymore. I have all NOS latches for mine now. (New Old Stock OEM not repro!)

Re: 48 -53 door striker plates

Thanks for the info. As it turns out, my strikers are fine as is as I have the middle one.

Now to resolve the door metal frame differences from 47-50 doors vs. 51 +

That middle one was basically an "adapter" for the early doors.

Re: 48 -53 door striker plates

I left my 52 striker plates on, as the 47-50 will not mount to the cab. In the end, they work great with the 48 doors. Open, close and lock. Problem solved. Now I need to list my 52 doors for sale.

Thanks for all the help.
