I've used this trick numerous times over the years. It works well.

1) Locate appropriate bolt. I used a 3/8", grade 8 bolt.
2) Center punch where hole is desired.
3) Drill small hole for cable to pass through.
4) Drill larger hole on one end of bolt for end of cable to rest in.
5) Use cutoff wheel to make slot for cable

Final picture: Bolt head removed, bolt ground on wheel, and cable installed. Probably about 10-12 minutes there, could invest more time to make look better.

That sir is one slick idea that may save a lot of guys a lot of head scratching in the future.

That looks awesome but I am wondering exactly where would you use it, I don't do a whole lot of mechanical stuff.

I could have used that setup a number of times one the gas pedal end of a throttle cable. It wold work on the carb or Fi end just as well on cables that have a setup for the cable end to fit in a socket similar to the drilled one in the bolt. In the past I've spent a lot of time under hoods in wrecking yards looking for a piece that I could adapt and make work and I could have made one of those in less time than it took to drive to the wrecking yard let alone look under who knows how many hoods to find what I could use.

Yep.

It can also work with a hood release cable and as a way to join park brake cables or to modify park brake pedal / lever to attach to different make of cable. I even used on in a custom built wheelchair van that had a broken door cable from some unknown vendor...

I don't know what I was thinking, yeah, my old cars don't have any cables but yeah I guess there is all kinds of uses.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
