New Question! What 6cyl do I have
OK, sorry guys but the 68 needs new plugs/wires etc. Problem is I don't know what size 6 cylinder it is. Anyone know. I was able to get these numbers off the block 392-1968. I couldn't read the he ones by the carb, but they started out with 392 as well. I hope that is enough to go on for someone.

To me, it looks like a 292 but don't take my word for it.

292 will have taller pushrod covers than a 250. It will also have the fuel pump located differently (either behind or in front of motor mount, can't remember). This is of little help but if you measure covers and descibe location of pump, maybe someone can fill in details.

Also, if 292, it should be listed on your glovebox option sheet.

There is nothing listed on the glove box sheet other than moulding, powerglide, and about four other things. Nothing about the motor. So, does that mean it is a 250? I'm pretty sure the pump is in front of the motor mount.

OK, CPNE thanks. They said the plugs for the 292 had extended tips and I wasn't sure which ones to get.
Any idea on the gap for the plug? Thanks again.

easiest way to tell is look at the motor mounts. The 292 is mounted on offset mounts while the 250 is mounted on parallels.

Just curious, Is that an air pump on the upper drivers side? It doesn't look like a PS pump.

Motor mounts are not offset. The motor has a smog pump on it. Alt is mounted under it (where PS normally is).
Thanks guys. I'll put the new plugs/wires in tonight. The wife wants to take her out cruisin tomorrow night!

If you look at the numbers & letters stamped on the machined pad just behind the distributor, you will see 2 or 3 letters. These letters can be run against a list in the LMC catalog index. It goes by year and displacement. '68 250s run like:TA, PF, TE, TT, PV, PW, TF, TC, TD, PX, PC. That listing is by no means written in stone. It does not correctly list my '68 292, "XAE" I have to dig deeper for that. Original owner's warranty -exchanged motor? XA and XE were used in '69 for 350s. This ain't no SBC.
