Found a 1978 GMC 4 wheel drive and on the badge just

under where it said Sierra in that small square box it said Winkle?

Never saw that before. This was a nice long bed truck back in the day, it had a 350 4 barrel, 4 speed mated to an np205 transfer case with that full floating rear axle. Has the locking hubs on the front...forgot the name, something like Earl??

Thanks for any help.

Maybe the dealer who first sold it? I know I've seen that before.

The word winkle was printed inside this small box above GMC.

Looks like there was a Winkel Buick, Cadillac, GMC in Reno but it is shut down now. It is also spelled Winkel, as opposed to Winkle. Not sure if they're the same, but sounds like a dealer thing.

Sounds reasonable, as the truck is in Los Angeles at the boneyard, so it could have easily made from there to here.

Thanks, and yeah my spell check gets a workout.
