'70 C20 variations

Hi Gang -

I know this info is on the board somewhere, but I am not able to find it. I'm scouring the earth for a '70 C20 and would like to know what the factory variations were for this model. Engine/trans combos, trim packages, etc. Both 2wd and 4wd. I want to be able to spot originals and rigs that have been pieced together.

Thanks for any info or links you can provide.

Kyle

Re: '70 C20 variations

From packages were base (c20 emblem), custom comfort and convenience (custom20 emblem) and custom sport truck (cst20 emblem). Any of these packages could be ordered with the custom camper nameplate (customcamper 20 emblem). Engines available were 250,292,307,350, and 402. 250 and 307 didn't have engine emblems below the c20 emblem as they were standard and not optional. The 402 was not available in the 4wd models. 3 speed manual, 4 speed manual, powerglide, and turbo hydramatic were available for transmission. In one ton applications the 3 speed manual was not available. I don't know if the powerglide was available in one tons. Powerglide wasn't available in 4wd either. I hope that covers it

Re: '70 C20 variations

This guy is claiming to have a stock 396 in a '70 C20 4x4

Did this come from the factory or did someone build it?

Thanks

No big blocks came in 4x4s. That truck has obviously had things done to it. Even the emblems are in the wrong spots.

Re: '70 C20 variations

You might consider 71 since that's the 1st year for disks...

Re: '70 C20 variations

If the VIN on the 70 starts with a K, it's likely an engine swap (big block into an original small block 4x4 - and as mentioned above, bbc never came in 4x4). If it starts with a C, it's likely a frame swap (from 2 to 4wd). The latter is more common.

Re: '70 C20 variations

Any comments on this one:

http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/5347087926.html#

I'm looking for a 3/4 ton 4x4 4spd as the base for a restoration. not going to build a show truck. Just a high-end daily driver. I don't mind doing rust repairs, or might even swap out the body entirely. I want to start with something that is as close to original equipment as possible and keep it that way. i've asked the seller for the VIN and build plate so that I can see if the rig has been modified. Based on the condition of the body, I doubt it.

Anything in particular I should be looking at?

Thanks
