oil pressure gauge and sender

I've poured through the tech links and I can't find an answer on this

I'm replacing my oil pressure sender and I wanted to know if I'm getting the right combination of gauge and sender since some gauges require a specific resistance. Can anyone tell me if I'm getting the right combination? part numbers listed below.

What you have picked out there is a replacement of the factory style 60psi sending unit and a reproduction gauge. Unfortunately, I don't see any specs listed for the gauge but 60psi was the most common so there is a good chance that it is compatible.

However, you are also dealing with replacement/reproduction parts and there are cases where their specs don't always match up with the original GM parts. For example, many of the replacement temperature sending units don't have the correct temperature vs. resistance curve to give an accurate reading on the stock gauge.


As for the resistance, I believe all of the GM oil pressure sending units (for this year range of trucks) have a resistance near or at zero when the pressure is near or at zero. And they all go up to approximately 90Ω at their max indicating pressure.

It's the max pressure where they differ. A gauge that reads up to 60psi was the most common in pickup trucks and needs to be paired with a sending unit that will be at 90Ω @ 60psi. Gauges that read up to 80psi and 100psi were used in some applications (mostly diesel engines) and need to be paired with corresponding sending units that will be at 90Ω @ 80psi (or @ 100 psi respectively).

The nice thing about the fact that they are all 0-90ohm senders is you can re-face the gauge to 80 or 100psi and get the proper corresponding sender.

thanks for the input. I know some people have had problems with matching sending units to gauges and this makes perfect sense now.

Hopefully I'll remember to update you after I put the engine back in and test it out.
