67 GMC Quick Build
I bought this truck last year to keep as a driver while I build my 72. Well like all things you end up a little deeper than you thought you would. It had a 307/TH400 when I got it and the highway manners werent the best. The PO did a Faux-Tina paint job that was ****. They just DA'd all the paint off leaving bare metal everywhere. So I changed the bed, stripped it and primed it white. I came across a 2007 Silverado that was wrecked so I dropped that drivetrain in. The goal of this truck was to enjoy driving, do some work, and do the 2015 power tour.
How I bought it: After primer and wheels. Cut the front coils and flipped the rear axle on the leafs. She is carrying her old heart in this one. I did the LS swap in 2 weeks. Then on the Power Tour with my brothers. Unfortunately this is somewhere South of St. Louis where the trans went out.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
I got married in October so from June to a few weeks ago the truck has been sitting waiting on a trans. I got a good 4l80 core from a friend and had it gone through and a Transgo HD2 shift kit installed. Picked up a 3200 Stall Convertor from Circle-D. And I couldnt just throw it back togther so I decided to clean everything up and paint the cab so it doesnt have to come apart again.
After alot of scraping and wirewheeling I painted the frame. Best thing was I had soaked the front in Oven Cleaner and pressure washed it after I took the LS out. Painted the steering Cast Iron Gray. Cleaned/Painted Axle. Still need to remove the backing plates and brakes and clean them up but I want to do a disc conversion so waiting. Truck looked pretty solid except for corner so got a cab corner came from AMD

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Then Pandora's Box opened up last night. I removed the cab corner and realized the previous work was sub-par and they had only fixed what you could see. The Inner Rocker/Inner Cab Corner was gone. So I removed the rocker panel to do more investigating. The lower A-pillar was also trash. Wish I would have known because I would have ordered all the replacement parts but Im on a time crunch and no time for that with holiday shipping and all. I will repair what I can and need to and strip, POR-15/prime-paint everything. So I broke out the sheetmetal and brake and went to town. I made the back seperate from the front inner rocker so I could slide it in behind the b-pillar. And I hate grinding inside so Im going to buzz the welds down when I can pull it outside, hopefully this weekend then put rocker and cab corner on.
It had one of the overlapping cab support panels but it was just bolted on, Ha! Fitting Back Piece Inner welded in: A-pillar piece I made. Dont make fun of my nyloks, I was out of regular nuts. So I welded these on and then ground the nylon part off. Hung the door and started refitting the rocker. They did such a terrible job replacing the rocker I was able to get it off without drilling one hole. Not too bad for a nights work.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Cool little truck. Those look like transport wheels? If so what size tire are you running, they look perfect.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Yes they are transports. I reversed the rear wheels for less backspace and im running 265/35/22 up front and 285/35/22 out back.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
I feel your pain on the surprise rust---been there!! On mine, I could have taken my trailer to Arizona (from Mo.), bought a different-rust free cab and been home in much less time and a whole lot less money than repairing my cab. Good luck on the build--looks good so far.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Ive been working on the truck a good bit trying to get the chassis rolling again. This will be a daily driver when its together so Im updating all the brakes to late model stuff.
My gears were toast and one axleshaft was ate up bad. So I pulled those parts from a 65 rot-box my buddy and I have. Picked up some late model brakes and converted the axle. Also it had 2 plug welds in the chunk that were missing and one spot had a hole straight through. Welded up those holes and the axle tubes to the center section. New brake mounts made for late model disc with integrated drum parking brake Cut off Brake mounts New mounts installed Welded up tubes Installed and all together:

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Well did some more work.
Installed the Circle-D convertor into the 4L80e trans. 3200 stall, setup for 4l60 flexplate. Dropped motor in on mounts I built before for Truck oil pan. Located trans mount and then redid motor mounts for F-Body pan to lower the engine. Motor is in Front suspension back together. Worked on exhaust today. Started with a box of mandrel bends from Columbia River. Made Y-pipe first smashed 3" pipe down to 2.5 in vice to mate with previous piece. Now on to the tailpipe over the axle and out the back. Then the trans cooler lines, some details on fuel lines, little bit of wiring and the cab goes on.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Forgot the chassis assembly pics apparently:
Upper control arm mounts: mock-up Tie-rods to correct bump-steer due to spindle swap All together Towing chassis up to garage for motor and cab install with my samurai. Camera lense was especially dirty, sorry.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Thanks!
I'm kicking it into high gear now. The wife and I are buying a new house and this sucker needs to be ready to move. So I quickly layed out the wiring routing and then dropped the cab on. Getting closer.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Need to clearance the a arm a bit to make sure the steering doesnt hit at full bump. Also made some shock relocators so it doesnt have like 10" of droop.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
Did you machine down the axle hub on these to fit the transport wheels and newer rear disc or did you bore out the disc and the wheel?

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
I drive the hell out of this truck. Power Tours, crusies, daily, etc. I machined the axles down so that it can take any rotor from any parts store or any 6 lug wheel if I need a spare.

Re: 67 GMC Quick Build
No strength reduction on turning the hub of the axle. It is just there to locate the wheel and rotor.
