Window & door handle fix

Anybody now of a way to fix the spline on the shafts for window and door handles?

Re: Window & door handle fix

That is the only way I am aware of. I replaced mine and my windows go up and down so much better. A little BLUE locktite will help from letting them get loose.

Re: Window & door handle fix

there is a window reg rebuild kit that has a new spline shaft in it, and there is a new door handle piece (that your handle mounts on) about $20 ea.

Re: Window & door handle fix

On my 64 I ended up drilling an indentation in the splined shaft where the set screw hit. This gave enough "Bite" to keep the window & door handles from spinning on the splined shaft. I eventually added power windows but my door handle mechanisms are still the same way.

Re: Window & door handle fix

Hi. When I got my 61 GMC, it was missing the interior door handle on the driver's side. Low and behold, once I got a new handle, it wouldn't work, because the splines were toast from the po using a vice grips as a handle! As per a suggestion from my father, I took a small triangular file to the splines, kind of reforming them from the smushed up metal. Has been working since.
