Lets play, "Name that Hubcap!" again

So looking to I.D. this cap. Have no idea what its from, but it has the 1966 raised outline around the 3 points like all the 66 truck caps do. The chrome on in my pic is the standard 66c10 cap. You guys proly know the dimensions already. So the dims on the white one are 9 5/8 o.d. 9 1/8 i.d. and its side height is less than 3/4. I have been googling pics for months to no avail. Dont know why I didnt just post here first. Any ideas? I thought they might be for a G10 van but not sure. I bought them sight unseen from a friend and paid way too much. I need to identify them before reselling. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The verdict is in. 1966 G 10 van hubcap. Words of wisdom, never buy '62-'66 hubcaps with just seeing the front view, you need the measurement of the back side.

No they won't fit over the nubs on the wheel. I ran across some of these on ebay once and bought them. But I ended up returning them as they were not what was represented in the listing. They were advertised as C10 caps but clearly were different and did not fit.

C10 caps are 10 1/8 diameter. So they are bigger and the van caps wont work.

Does anyone have a picture of the wheel that these "van" caps fit?

Re: Lets play, "Name that Hubcap!" again

I used to. Im guessing its just a smaller version of the C10 rim. I think they have the same 3 nub setup. I cant remember 100% tho.

if they are off a g10, or corvair I am guessing that they might be 5 lug 14's, and that's the reason for the smaller diameter?

Re: Lets play, "Name that Hubcap!" again

Corvairs had a smaller lug pattern wheel that took a yet smaller size hubcap than cars and 1/2t trucks. The same smaller size was used on Chevy IIs. I don't think G-series used a smaller lug pattern/lighter hubs than mid-sized cars did they? Rim diameter has nothing to do with it. Lots of 5 on 4 3/4" 14" rims went on mid to full-sized cars, and they took the same size cap as 1/2t trucks with 15" rims and even a slightly larger lug pattern.

Re: Lets play, "Name that Hubcap!" again

Its time to hit the literature. It appears there were 13" rims and 14" rims on these G 10 vans both with the 5 lug pattern. The smaller 9 1/4 caps must be for the 13" wheels. The 14" wheel may or may not take the larger 10 1/4" cap that was used on C 10's. I have no experience with these rims, but probably may have been used on Chevy cars.. Interesting, there is no Chevy Van or Corvair Van sub forums on this site,

Re: Lets play, "Name that Hubcap!" again

Heres a list of 1961-1966 Chevy C10 hubcaps by part number and what the Chevrolet parts book states they fit. F.C. = Forward Control Corvair .

1961-1963 Painted 3780114 C10 15 inch (nub wheels) also is in the Corvair book as fitting "F.C. except deluxe Equipment

1961-1963 Chrome 3780115 C10 15 inch with chrome bumper (nub wheels) also is in the Corvair book as fitting "F.C. with deluxe Equipment

1964-1965 Painted 3839978 C10 and Corvair some books state 14 and 15 inch "Clipless Rims"

1964 1965 Chrome 3839983 C10 and Corvair

1966 Painted 3875623 ( according to the parts book this fits C10 and G10 with 14 or 15 inch wheels) This is listed in the regular Chevy truck parts books.

1966 Chrome 3875624

The Van part numbers are , what I have so far, 3852040 3875631 for 1964 1965 .

Chevy II Novas in the first few years used a 4 lug 13 inch wheel with a smaller than normal hubcap. So did these vans and they are the ones that received these shorter 9 1/2 inch caps for 13 inch rims.

When I look at the Vans Jonzcustom posted , those look like 14 inch wheels ( to me ) with the larger 10 1/4 hubcap. Picture one with the chrome caps , those look like the smaller bowtie reproduction hubcaps that are available anywhere for C10s . Ive never seen a reproduction of the 13 inch wheel Van cap.

Re: Lets play, "Name that Hubcap!" again

Ok, so the Corvair 95 and Greenbriar must have used 4.75" or 5" on 5 wheels. I'm surprised they did and the G-series didn't, since they were built for heavier use. The Corvair cars used the small caps that the 4-lug Chevy IIs did. It's all about the hub size and nothing about wheel diameter when it comes to hubcaps.

Yeah, this site overlooks a bunch of commercial GM vehicles. Before we had a forum for larger trucks, when there was doubt there would be enough traffic, I was suggesting we could make it for all the combined vehicles overlooked...Vans, Sedan Deliveries, El Caminos, Utes, Holdens pickups, etc.

I agree on hub size , You make a lotta good points. Parts book shows G-10 wheel as 3872276 1964-1970 14x5 JK and another as 1964-1968 G-10 3860957 13 inch . Cross that number to the Corvair and Chevy II Books 3860957, Same 13 inch wheel used for Corvair , G-10 and Chevy II.

Link 2 Corvair Nova parts book http://gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=77945

EDIT : They used the same 14x5 3872276 wheel for Chevelle and Chevy II as G10 Van 14x5 Link one http://gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=50193 Link two http://gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=22460

Re: Lets play, "Name that Hubcap!" again

Looked in my older Chevy truck book one book WIKI doesnt have yet, heres the G-10 13 inch hubcap part number. Notice it say "First Design" for 64 65 and "except 14 inch " Thats Chevrolet's way , why they cant just spell it out that its for 13 inch wheel but they do for a few other G10 13 inch caps, oh well at least it shows the 9 23/32 overall size.
