Where can I buy a new bench?
I've checked with local yards and no bench seats. Can't seem to find any on CL either.
The only one I've come across is a sort of custom frame at Classic Industries for around $900. I can't handle the buckers that came with the truck. Its to go in a 71 GMC. Any recommendations on where to search for a bench seat? Thank you! Last edited by 70cst; 12-27-2015 at 10:08 PM. |

Hi DogueParamour ...
to the forums and from Ohio. I would continue to look in CL or eBay. To post a WTB - you need to become a "Premium" member - well worth the money. Best of luck.

I would go to a wrecking yard and just see what they have. You can buy a seat cover and have it re done to your liking.
I believe all wrecking yards have a way to link to all other yards and can check all over for you if they will.

Re: Where can I buy a new bench?
you can broaden your search to include bench seats up to the early 90s

I think the PO of my truck used those exact same terrible buckets! I know a lot of people have used later truck benches from junkyards. I have read of quite a few using rear seats from Yukons or Tahoes as well, as they are a bit narrower and fit our trucks better. If you want a correct era bench, a wanted to buy post in the classifieds is your best bet. FWIW, I sunk a ton of time and money into the bench seat for my truck. Hunted down replacement springs, had the foam repaired, and recovered it twice before getting it to look nice. It never was comfortable, way too bouncy and I hit my head on bumps. I wound up swapping in new buckets from Procar. The bench lays in the basement now covered in my wife's junk.

Re: Where can I buy a new bench?
Watch the parts board for someone parting one out. I scored a really nice OE olive bench last spring for $175. Condition wise It's a 9 on a 1-10 scale. They come up on here and on Craigslist you just got to watch and don't hesitate to make a move when you see what your looking for. Patience wins the race.

Re: Where can I buy a new bench?
I'd like to (eventually) get a bench seat with head rests. I feel a bench seat is better as you can slide over, haul a 3rd person, let your GF sit next to you, and it's good for dates.
My original seat was overpadded in 1990 and my thighs touch the steering wheel. I will have it de-padded ASAP. |

CAGS, please post your own WTB thread in the parts board. Most members here dislike someone hijacking a thread.

Re: Where can I buy a new bench?
Thats what I thought they were. The ones in my truck were very much worn out and NOT comfortable. The springs had cut through the foam and there was zero cushion left.

Re: Where can I buy a new bench?
Like someone else said, you can expand to other years. There's a lot of 73-87 trucks/SUVs out there still and same with the 88-98 GM trucks/SUVs.
