Lower A-arm Help

Hello, I have a 69 scsb C/10 and I have recently purchased the Hotchkis 4/6 lowering spring kit. I started on it tonight and I can’t seem to get the lower control arm/a-arm to break free and drop from the spindle. Shock is off, tie rod is off and loosened the the nut holding the lower arm in but did not take all the way to ensure the spring doesn’t fly out. I have used a big hammer and bars, tuning fork etc. and nothing will break it free. I soaked everything down last night and again today with PB Blaster. Any suggestions??

Hit the spindle on the side where the ball joint goes through. Hard.

I'm using a 4lb sledge hammer, is that big enough?

Do you still have a the spring under pressure? And yes hit it hard.

^^^ Just as SierraMtns suggested. If it does not come loose it means you're not hitting it hard enough. Make sure to put the jack under the lower A-arm till it is just resting on it (under where the ball joint is), this will keep the spring from flying out because the jack will stop it.

Well went and bought a new longer handle hammer and still no luck, I've hit and pryed and still no luck. I attached a picture of what I've got, if someone could circle the exact spot I need to focus on hitting please help!!

looks like your hitting it in the right spot i have had some real hard ones the only advice is get a BIGGER hammer you can try to have some one get a pry bar and pry down while you hit it just be carefull

Anywhere on the center line of where the black line is.



Might help to remove the steering arm.

all I can add to this is that when I had to do mine this way I thought you all were full of crap, just hit it with a bigger hammer ya right... Until I finally got mad and got out the 8 pound. I hit it with all I could at the odd angle.

It popped with the first blow. I am now abeliver in this method but man o man I have had some hard ones and other that a small 2 lb did the trick.
