1985 c10 shortbox fleet with 6.2L diesel factory is this rare.
I just bought a 1985 c10 shortbox fleetside 2wd with a factory 6.2L diesel, even has sticker on rad support to prove it's factory. Is this a rare truck, I have never seen one of these before but maybe I just didn't pay enough attention. I am planning on putting a LQ9 6.0L with a cam and a 4l60E in it, full build, with a 5"-8" drop front and rear.

Not 'rare' but 'uncommon'. Diesels are not common, short beds are less common than long beds, and together its uncommon. I own an 87 2wd longbed diesel, fully loaded, have a spare motor out of an 82 longbed 4wd. there is a diesel dually and a 3/4 ton and a nice 1/2 ton on CL in the SE Michigan area right now.

You'll probably want to build the 4L60E or go with something stronger if you're planning on having fun.

Yes, the 6.2 diesel is very rare in a shortbed. I have at least 15 trucks/Blazers/Suburbans with 6.2 diesels. Have been running/restoring them since the early 90's. They are not a powerful engine, but very economical. Just a suggestion, but you may want to advertise you truck. There are "die hard" 6.2 guys out there that will pay you top dollar for your truck if it's in nice condition.

What type of options does it have? I hear a lot about these trucks with a diesel got a bad rap from the old 5.7 and people stayed clear of them. Once in awhile one pops up here and there. I have seen more of them with a swapped smallblock than stock intact. My cousin has an 83 jimmy that's black with blue interior loaded 6.2 and is in really nice shape A short bed for sure would be harder to come by. I have seen one in short bed 4x4 years ago. I have had a few people look at mine and say "junk Buick block, have fun with that" and "Pontiac garbage right there". Haha. I like the old 6.2. Sure is no power house but leaves its own smoke behind.

We had one. Ours was an '82: swb Scottsdale , black interior and exterior, rally wheels, bed mount spare.

Don't bother with a 4l60e go 4l80e

Re: 1985 c10 shortbox fleet with 6.2L diesel factory is this rare.
I would agree the 5.7 diesels gave the 6.2's a bad rap..... the 6.2's are actually a great engine. I have put close to 500000 km on a couple of them. I heard of an old farmer in central Sask running one for 710000. I commute a long distance to work, and a 6.2 2WD will make 30 MPG on the highway. I will admit that you do need a lot of room to pass..... a powerhouse they are not.

Here's mine as it ran away on me the other day. Somehow it knew I was going to stuff a Vortec 454 in it this week. I guess it wanted to go out in a lot of smoke. LOL.

That's no fun. What was the end result? If I thought hard enough I'd use a fire extinguisher I carry and then probably a moving blanket or something...

Re: 1985 c10 shortbox fleet with 6.2L diesel factory is this rare.
What we think happened, because one of the employees ran it out of diesel, after filling it up, some sediment in the tank got loose and got stuck in an injector, causing it to be stuck open. After I took that photo i went to go get a blanket and when I came back, the truck died and wouldn't crank over, so I assume one of the cylinders is hydraulic'ed full of diesel. Or the timing chain broke, or the crank. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the crank because those are a common weak point in these motors. Oh well! I have a vortec 454 and a 4l80e to look forward to!
